Did you REALLY stay out of the sun?

Recommended Posts

So I'm really curious to know who actually stayed out of the sun before their weddings! I know that most people suggest it (especially photographers), but what about the ladies who had to be in Mexico for 4 days before their wedding?! I honestly can't imagine not being in the sun for 4 whole days of my vacation!!

I know people have mentioned different things they did to help to not burn (sunscreens, long sleeves, etc) but did you guys actually find it easy to hide from the sun for a few days? I honestly don't think I'd be able to!!

I'm going to be in the sun. I don't want to spend my time indoors. I hope I don't burn, but I'll just risk it. i usually don't burn on vacation if I reapply the sunscreen often & I have fair skin. As long as I've been in the sun enough prior to the trip I'm usually fine.

I plan on laying out before we go so I won't burn as easy. I'll wear lots of sunscreen & clothes that won't leave bad tan lines for my dress.

I intentionally bought a dress with straps.

I totally know what you mean! I'll be in Maui for 4 days before my wedding, and it's going to be so hard to not get tan lines. A couple of my friends who've had DW's though, have told me that you're so busy meeting with your vendors and guests those few days before the wedding that you don't actually have that much time outside. I hope that's true, because I really don't love the idea of investing in a bunch of strapless tops and dresses that I'll never wear again!

Yes, as much as possible! Once I went to PV and burned up, once I went and got a golden tan...didn't want to gamble with this trip or have strap marks with my strapless dress so I made the sacrifice. I got to PV 3 days prior to the wedding. The first day I arrived at like 4pm so there was no problem.

Sherry is absolutely right, the pre-wedding days are busy. The 2nd day I did a site visit from about 8am-4pm, prime sun time! I wore a strapless dress with a hat and tons of sunscreen (for real, I sprayed it on every 15 minutes!). I did some swimming in the ocean and stayed under the covered part of the boat coming & going. No burn/lines.

The 3rd day we went downtown to shop/run errands/meet up with guests and I wore a tank top. Just from going in/out of stores I caught some sun and had minor strap marks despite being careful. Luckily they were gone by the wedding day. The wedding day I got in the ocean too but briefly and carefully.

If it weren't my wedding I would have been in the sun all day each day but there really is limited time. I didn't have time to get in the hotel pool until after the wedding just because of the schedule. The time I had I was conservative. I feel like you can't re-do your wedding pics so consider how your skin reacts and if tanlines matter that much to you. I didn't want to count on Photoshop, I just wanted the pics to be how I really looked that day so I was careful.

You don't need to stay inside just be safe and smart. Good luck ladies!

I am Caspar the friendly ghost so I had to be very careful. Two weeks prior to the wedding I started using that mild tanner Jergens makes so I wasn't translucent on wedding day. But Yeah I used lots of SPF 50 and stayed in the shade when laying out. But then on wedding day I forgot to put sun screen on and I looked like a lobster after photos. lol. It didn't show in the pics though.

I plan to be in the sun as much as possible, and we're getting there 4 days before our wedding. I actually just got the strapless bathing suit that I plan to wear all summer, and before our trip and I'm also seriously considering getting a strapless top or two. I also plan to wear SPF 15 or 30 not to risk burning, but I usually just tan quick.

I'm actually worried about the top of FI's head! I'm going to have to MAKE him wear sunscrean when we get there so he doesn't burn and peal in pics. Damn bald men!

I was in Jamaica for 4 days prior to our wedding. I had tanned before hand, but I still tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible to avoid tan lines. I'm not saying I stayed indoors all day, but our resort had a covered patio, so I could be outside without baking.

I was in the sun the WHOLE time! I wore strapless shirts/dresses/swimsuits and I piled on the sunscreen. Remember to reapply. I actually didn't burn AT ALL... until my wedding day when i forgot to put on suntan lotion! Whoops! My poor head is still peeling!

I was there 4 days before as well. I was careful to always apply sunscreen and to wear a hat if my forehead felt a little too hot, but I certainly didn't sit in the shade either. I tanned for a month before going so I had a nice base. I sat pool side nearly every day and didn't get lines. After the wedding, I actually got burnt. Before- I was golden. No lines.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
