Eeek! Thinking of changing resort and date!

Recommended Posts

I think it's just really bothering me because it's so many bad reviews. As well, the GP has an unofficial site for die-hard Palladium fans - people that go back year after year. Lately even their reviews have had lots of complaints and that's what really worries me. These are people who consider the Palladium to be family and they're having issues. They've had a lot of comments about breakins and just yesterday there was a sexual harrasement issue involving staff! As the resort is so spread out that's a huge deal as I don't want to have to be worried about safety while walking all their pathways.

FH is against changing the date because he thinks it will turn our wedding into a joke. Originally we had completely planned a wedding at home for August that we cancelled for the DW. So the date has already changed once. The first travel agent we spoke with (who obviously was an idiot as her quote for everything was $400 more then every other agent) said there was no price difference between October and November so that we should go in November. We just believed her (I mean she does this for a living, she should know, right?) and that's why we picked November 18th. If we had known the big price difference then we would have choosen October originally.

My thought is, if we tell people we're switching the date to save them $400 each, then we'll look like we're caring about them, not that we're a joke who can't make up our minds.

I think we'll have to go with Tulum. Coba is out because it's too far from the beach (we'll have a baby with us so we want easy access to the rooms for when he's napping, etc.). So it's between Tulum and Akumal. With the tour operators here, you can stay at Tulum Sat-Sat but Akumal is only Sun-Sun. Sat works better as the flights get in so late on Sunday, that everyone would have to take Sunday off work as well. But Sat-Sat they're only taking 5 days off instead of 6. As well, I don't have TA pricing yet but based on online prices for Oct 25/26, Tulum is $1075 (plus tax) and Akumal is $1459.12

Thanks! I got an email from your mail server saying the message was being temporarily quarantined and would be available after 6pm today. Hopefully it comes through sooner!

About two weeks after I picked a resort, I started to see a ton of bad reviews and the WC had stopped contacting me. So I switched resorts. After I switched I felt instantly relieved. That's what I needed to do. I say if you think it will make you feel better and none of your guests will mind (i think they'll be pretty happy you are saving them money) than go for it.

I did stay at the BP in tulum about 3 1/2 yrs ago, I loved it there. I had nothing bad to say. Goodluck with your decision.

i don't even read the reviews on tripadvisor anymore ... some people would rave about the resort and others would have the complete opposite to say ... i just use it to look at all the pictures cuz it gives you a real sense of what the resort looks like!

The GP is on my list of resorts (im trying to find a beautiful gazebo that will allow 70 guests to attend) but it seems like no one here has gotten married there .. i can't find much info which I don't think is a good sign

Also I think I read they only do civil ceremonies? no symbolic ones? does anyone know?

I don't know about symbolic ceremonies at the GP because we were going to do a legal one. You're right about there not being much info. It seems everytime I log on there's a bunch of new Dreams threads but nothing for the Palladium. In all my searching I've only found a couple brides that were married at the GP. It's sort of a double negative them not doing many weddings because along with not finding much information on BDW about weddings there, it seems the resort itself doesn't have much info. I asked about centerpieces and they have one option whereas the Bahia has pages of options.

Senora de Garcia - my family is from the Island as well! They used to live in Victora but now they're down in Naniamo. Anyways, regarding the weather, we figure it's sort of a crapshoot. I mean, a hurricane might hit in November or October. I know October has a higher risk but we didn't feel it was that much higher. Also, if we get a few short showers, we're okay with that - especially since it means it will be warmer weather.

As for our wedding though, we're still waiting on the WC. Hopefully we'll hear soon - the mail man was just here and dropped off our invite supplies!!! :) So I can't wait to start making them.

I stayed at the GP in 2007 and loved it. The beach was great and it was very tropical. Lots of vegetation and iguanas. We went the week after a hurricane and couldn't even tell that it had been hit (besides the leaves on trees) because the workers were amazing. I don't think you can go wrong with GP but def. go with your heart on this one!! :)

Today we put our deposits down!!!! We're going to the Bahia Principe Tulum the last week of October!!!! I can't wait! Our TA is Lindsay and she's been a TON of help - and has gotten me about a million quotes...lol. So now I just have to stay off BDW so I don't change my mind again...lol.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
