Just the 2 of you DW - who's done it?

Recommended Posts

I just got had a long conversation w/ FI about the wedding. We have been struggling w/ trying to to figure out the logistics of getting all the important people to our wedding...and the best place to have it. It looks like his parents will be unable to go.

His dad lives in Montana and is fairly unwilling to leave. He has allot of animals and would have a difficult time finding caretakers where he is. He offered to host the wedding there...but he lives in the middle of nowhere (and I mean 45 min from a supermarket nowhere). Getting married there is very unappealing to me.

His mom is recently widowed and is having large financial problems. Joel's step-dad left her a trust and the house in his will. She recently found out that the person running the trust is embezzling from her. She now has to give her entire paychecks to a lawyer to pay for the legal bills in trying to get her money from the estate. It's a big mess and she is about to lose it with stress. Joel hasn't even told her about the Mexico because he knows it's too much for her to even think about going.

So we just decided to do the "just the 2 of us" weddingmoon. Who else here has gone that route, or is dong this? I'd love to hear from you about your experiences. I've been to Sandals in MoBay and know Sandals do them all the time. Who else does this type? Now that we aren't bringing anyone we can look outside of Mexico. I'd love to hear suggestions, advice, etc. I tried searching the forums, but couldn't figure out what terms to use.

My Hubby and I got married just the two of us last year at Dreams Tulum. It was wonderful, intimate, and beautiful. We had a morning ceremony followed by pics, champange (and tequila shots), cake, and private lunch on the beach. We then called friends and family, and went to lay out on the beach before our candlelit wedding dinner on the beach that was arranged by my husband. Most resorts have no problem adjusting their wedding packages to fit two instead of a group. It was just so great and I highly recommend it.

I think almost any resort that does weddings will do a wonderful weddingmoon for 2 :) My resort was a small, intimate place, and they do a lot of weddings for just the couple. I'd say find a place you guys really want to go to, and talk to them. It will be beautiful and perfect!

It certainly gives you more freedom because you don't have to think about anyone else but what makes you two happy. How nice is that! I think it would be easy to find a resort to accomdate you. I'd first pick where you two would like this take place. How fun!

Thanks Guys. I just don't want to feel like I'm missing out on anything. My parents and siblings are very casual and laid back and will just be happy with whatever we choose. I know they will be a little disapointed not to be there, but Joel has said it would make him feel bad to have my parents there and not his.

I am a little sad to not be doing things like DIY invites, BM dresses, etc. However I'm sure the stress level will be so much less without all that stuff.

I guess my next step is to find a good TA and figure out where to go.

I'm sorry to hear about the family issues. I don't think its a bad idea of the 2 of you getting married alone. That makes it very intimate. Maybe you can have an after wedding reception or have the party on your 1 year annivesary. You will have a great time wherever you go. Good luck!

Hey,

One of my favorite weddings ever was a two person wedding in Belize. They were so relaxed and had such a fabulous day. They spent the morning out on a half day snorkeling trip - came back - got ready - had a beautiful ceremony followed by a candle light dinner for two out on the beach. It was so intimate and special. So so sweet.

Go for it - I think you will have a blast.

The options are endless and you can go to some off the beaten path places that don't work for those with guests...I'm thinking...Belize, Jost Van Dyke, ahhhh....Jost Van Dyke would be incredible!

:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
