I'm glad somebody you brought this up. My parents are Jamaican too and they want a rum cake but I know we've got to have a yellow cake for FI's side too.

Somebody mentioned doing a split-layer cake (traditional rum cake/yellow cake): have you had this before & how did it work out?

Oh. My. Goodness. I am so glad that someone else is having the torture of the cake favors. I thought my mom was the only one on this tip.

$350 for the cake? Not bad. can you post the pics of what you are looking at? The Fondant icing is a must here as well.

who knew that we had so many Jamaican Brides on here!! Anywho, I sent Chandlyn an email to see about splitting the layers and of course, I've been waiting for her to respond. I think the resort is charging $250 for the cake that I want.

If it doesn't work I'll have to PM you the pics

My mother just got to JA today w/ 3 cakes. 2 were cut up and put in a cooler type bag and the other wasn't cut. All have to fondant on already. She made it down safely and the cakes are in good shape. Thank God!

BTW: your cake is lovely.

Jamie.

Thanks Jamie.
It's always stressful when going back because my mother has to bring for everyone. The luggage is always overweight and too much drama. So glad there was no drama and all is well. Hope I can say the same for my flight on Monday!

Your cake is pretty jamie!

So i spoke to my mother again today and kept getting ""Why a cooler bag?" when I explained how your mom brought the cake up mich.

I am actually going to place the cake for favors in cello bags and then place those bags in the cake boxes and then in a carry on bag.

As for the tiers of the wedding cake I still dont know what to do. Maybe I can tell her (my mother) again to get a large cooler bag....:sigh:.

It's not a cooler but looks like one. Or maybe like a camera bag. I think it worked out good because the sides and bottom are firm, as oppose to a duffle bag where they can slide all over the place. But my mother also told me that you can't freeze it, and w/ that hot sun having it in a cool place (mostly for the icing) wouldn't be a bad thing.

I didn't put them in boxes yet because I thought the boxes would crush.

Good luck with your mother. You kinda have to let them do what they want. You can suggest things but let dem gwan, is arrite.

Wow, I can relate to your dilemna. I am Jamaican and my fiance is American. Most of my family will be attending our wedding in Ocho Rios at Beaches, so we must have a jamaican rum cake. I am actually going to have 2 cakes, one american and then pay extra for a Jamaican cake that the resort bakes. Hope it is yummy! Well hope you get your solution soon! Good luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
