Chichen Itza--New ??'s Post #28

Recommended Posts

I thought it was pretty amazing and I recommend getting a guide. The information about each of the buildings made it even more interesting; we would have missed out on a lot if he didn't point out and explain things for us. It would be great for your guests who want to do more than just be on the beach the whole time - I know I get bored of that pretty fast. However, I don't recomend booking through the hotel. I think our hotel charges about $95, but you can get it for $35 from the shops in Playa del Carmen.

Tulum ruins also have a beautiful view, but it is very different from Chichen.

We canoed around their lake then took a hike (ok more of a walk) in the jungle until we came to a zip line which we zipped across a lake (super cool) then as we walked back we stopped at a cenote and repelled in and swam in the crystal clear water. Afterwards we got back to the village and the ladies of the village prepared a traditional lunch (the trip is AI) afterwards we stopped at a house where a lady was hand making a hammock then to finish the day a walk around chichen itza. While there we rented bikes for like $2 and saw lots of the property (although not necessary, the ruins are enough) A fantastic day and one of my favorites from all the excursions I have ever done at any resort.
Needless to say when we got back we crashed!friday.gif

oooh that sounds incredible!! who was the tour through??

Yes we went. I have been twice. First time We were able to climb up to the top of the main pyramid and inside as well.

It was incredible, but I am biased since I plan on visiting as many pyramids as I can in this lifetime.

When we went in Feb. I was very dissappointed that we could not climb it, but it didn't seem to bother all those that went with us. There are other structures there that you can climb.

It is an all day event. I loved it.

If you are planning on seeing ruins in Belize I gather that you have some interest in Mayan ruins? If so, you owe it to yourself to go see Chichen Itza. It's one of the wonders of the ancient world.

I plan on going there next time we are in Mexico. Like someone said to me....

"If you were two hours away from the pyramids at Giza, would you say 'eh, it's too far'"?

We went about four years ago through our hotel. We bus ride took forever and it was miserably hot in July, but so worth it. It's not as spread out as Coba and not as small as Tulum (also doesn't have an ocean breeze like Tulum), its like a whole town of ruins. They have the pyramid, smaller buildings and even a sacrificial pit. If you're into ruins and the whole cultural aspect of it, its totally worth the ride and the heat. We did get to climb the pyramid, I heard you can't do it anymore because someone got hurt. Like everyone else said, get a guide. We are definitely doing it during our trip in July and everyone is so excited.

I went to Chichen itza when I was younger and it was GREAT! It's really something you shouldn't miss if you are in that area. It's a tiring day trip but soooo worth it. I see pictures in history books and everywhere and I always get to say "Hey! I've been there!"

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
