Boycott El Dorado Royale & Karisma Resorts-UPDATE policy REVISED!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just got back from my site visit at EDR and I'm considering EDR for my wedding next year. I've been reading about all the issues going on with the outside vendor policies. Today, when I asked the WC about the updated policy, she sent me the old policy. I'm waiting to hear back from her to confirm the new policy, but, could you tell me where you found the new updated policy for outside photographers. Thanks!

Rhonda

if you contact your WC about the policy and they send you the old one, tell them that you heard that Faith Wishnie (head of wedding dept) recently changed the policy...at least that is what i was told by their pr company. if they respond differently, let me know and we will re-instate the ban.

Hey, my wedding coordinator just got back to me today and confirmed that yes in fact EDR's photographer policy has changed. It is now a $500.00 fee ONLY. No additional 3 night stay. In my case, I have my photographer driving in from outside of the Riviera Maya, therefore I have to book her a room for my wedding. But at least now for me that means $500.00 + 1 night stay. Not so bad I guess.

i was told it was a $500 fee IF they were not staying at the resort as a guest. not $500 and staying at the hotel....

Thanks!

I just checked after I posted and they have changed it!
"Outside photographers and videographers are not allowed on property unless pre-approved by the hotel in advance. The hotels reserve the right to deny access to the property to any unauthorized photographer or videographer. Please contact your wedding coordinator for more information on approved vendors. Outside photographers and videographers approved by the hotel will incur a $500 photo fee per day.

El Dorado Spa Resorts & Hotels and Azul Hotels, by Karisma abide by all Mexican governing laws which require foreign workers to obtain proper licensing and work certificates while in Mexico doing work for themselves or on behalf of others . We reserve the right to request proof of such license and/or work certificate."

So really, they are still charging the $500 fee but no longer requiring the 3-night stay.

Tammy - I thought they were going back to their original policy that if they are staying 3 nights there is $0 Fee? Maybe I misunderstood.

Don't you think the fees are a little ridiculous? Other resorts in that area charge way less ($100 USD) and some don't even charge at all.

I will definitly not be recommending this resort to ANY of my friends and family because of the overcharging that this resort does.

I'm looking into cabo and so many resorts have stupid vendor rules, not only EDR. Most resorts (Riu, westin etc don't allow outside vendors) should we not have a thread that explains which resorts allow outside vendors, which ones don't and which resorts charge and how much they charge? I think it's so stupid to charge brides paying so much $ already. I don't think it's fair at all and 500$ is the most I have ever heard of!

Do you have a name? Its nice to see Karisma tune into the Internet web sector of their target demographic. If you are going to be posting about policies and so forth, it would be nice to know who we are talking to and your position inside Karisma's Goliath company.

del Sol photography also strives to provide exceptional wedding services and meet our guests' every need. In fact, we strive even harder to sell your hotels to our clients by posting slideshows on this forum. Our clients are members and talk about their past experiences. The lasting impression every time, their photo story at your resorts.

We are in business to serve travel agent style marketing with our online presence through online networks and forums like this one. Del sol Maintains proper paperwork to work in your hotels and yet Karisma coordinators reply to our clients that we were banned due to past unprofessional behavior. When in fact, it was words from very post in this forum where we were trying to protect our clients about these fees and let them know exactly what they were and that they were high and we disagreed with it however it was the only way for us to work on the property. We endorsed this policy and asked EVERYONE to pay the $500 fee. And my count today, is that we serviced 15+ weddings where our clients paid those fees.

Our upcoming clients and current Karisma clients wish you would change your policies, especially regarding your smaller Boutique hotels. We are in position to have a very very mutually beneficial professional relationship with constant del SOl referrals from ecstatic clients.

del Sol and all of our clients are curious to hear your reply and we would like to THANK our clients for their support. Also, thank you Faith Wishnie for actually making a good PR decision to allow old contracts to continue to have their wedding without last minute policy changes damaging their special day.

Regards,

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
