Help! RIU Negril

Recommended Posts

Okay so I'm new to the board and have been reading the posts the last couple of days and now I'm even more confused. Don't get me wrong you guys have everything covered here and it's a lot of great info. I guess I didn't realize the extent some people go to for their destination weddings. I thought a lot of this was covered by the wedding coordinator. But does everyone get table runners, chair covers, numbers for the tables, bring their own flowers to decorate the arches? I didn't plan on any of this.... Please help and let me know what I should be expected to bring along with me! My wedding is in November at the RIU Negril and I've been trying to contact the coordinator there with no success. If anyone has any info that would be helpful about the Negril RIU please let me know too! I would also love to see some pictures. Thank you!

It really all depends on what you're looking for in your DW. I know a lot of brides on this board have done different extent of details for their weddings, but you don't have to do the same. I am very laid back and chose to have a DW so I don't have to worry about those details. Although I have enjoyed reading and looking at other brides' planning, I haven't really done much for my own and is keeping the budget very low.

I think you can do as much or as little as you want! If you want table runners, chair covers, and table numbers.. go for it! If you don't skip it.

Each resort offers different things as part of their package. And most have things you can add at a price. Have you been incontact with the onsite wedding coordinator at all?

I'm not very familair with Riu Negril... but I am a Riu Ocho Rios bride and here are my plans thus far. We are trying to keep it more relaxed and low key...

Wedding:

-Free basic package

-We will be bringing our own flowers (Anegels Accnets) though because the flowers in the package weren't what i was really looking for... and the upgrading costs were high.

-I will probably go with the free decoration at the site... or may do a slight upgrade. Lots of options available.

-I actually don't mind the brown chairs at ROR so won't be doing chair covers which I feel are too formal. But you can rent them and bows for a price (can't htink of how much)

Reception:

-ROR has several options including a free semi-private option, a private reception at one of hte restaurants ($500/2hours), and beach/poolside dinners ($50/person).

-Since we are going more relaxed I am doing the free, semi-private option (which most brides say is actually like 99% private). The tables at Mammee are narrow... so no table runners or centerpieces or table numbers for me.

It's all what you want! Just remember to plan accordingly... anything you want to bring from home needs to be packed with you! Most don't recommend shipping things to Jamaica.

I agree with Becky...It's all about your vision so do as much or as little as you want.

A lot also depends on the size of your wedding and your budget. I am willing to splurge on a private welcome dinner for 30 people at $20 each = $600 but not on a private dinner reception at $100 each = $3000. We really aren't doing many upgrades. I figure we should save money and put it into our AHR!

We aren't doing tables numbers or decorations. Our resort won't allow it unless you do the private reception and they don't accept shipments so I have to haul everything down with me!

As long as you have your wedding time and location booked (this is separate from your room) you'll be ok. Most of us have had trouble reaching the WC this far out from the wedding. As you get closer they are easier to catch.

I had good luck googling images of my resort and also watching weddings on you tube.

Thank you for your help! I am having between 60-70 guests as of right now and we haven't even sent out invitations yet. We wanted something small (between 15-20 people) and that's why we decided on a dw. We never thought all of our family and friends would go but they did! I want it to be nice but I also want it to be affordable.... I also don't want to have to lug all of the stuff with me. So the resort does have things we can upgrade to? Flowers, chair ties, etc? We are doing the Caprice wedding package because of all the extra guests and I would love to do a private dinner but with that many people it would be way out of our price range. Does anyone know if the resort offers gift baskets so I wouldn't have to bring stuff for the gift bags?

As I said I'm not famaliar with Riu Negril... but just to warn you the free wedding dinner at ROR is for a max of 50 people. If you go over that, you need a private reception. Not sure if its the same at Negril. I am really hoping we stay under 50... we invited a little over 100 but knew/thought a lot of my moms side and some friends would be coming. Realistically we thought we would have 20-30... but lately everyone keeps saying they are coming so we shall see. Never know for sure until they start having to put money down!

Yep the resort should have the chair covers, ties, and flowers you can upgrade to. You can make these arrangemetns when you get there or you could try emailing your WC and asking for your options.

Not sure of the gift bags. I haven't heard of anyone using them... so not sure if that means... they don't have them or they are expensive or just that no one has used them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
