Most of the people in the suites around us, seemed to be brides that we had seem previously getting married, and we got the impression that they almost 'save' those rooms especially for wedding upgrades.

crossing my fingers you get your upgrade!
That would be fabulous!!! Thanks for letting me know!

Oh good, I'll definitely ask if they can do that if I like the looks of it.

You put alot of work into your review which I'm sure other fellow member will really use. The rooms remind me of the Riu jalisco. I swear the bathroom set-up looks the same and the bedding is the exact match. I really enjoy the Riu chain, I think I'll be going back and next on my list is either Los Cabos or Jamaica.

That sucks Hedi about not having many options for vegetarians. I know my cousin is one and she didn't say anything. Oops now I feel kind of bad for not even asking.

First let me say THANK-YOU for such a fab review. So much detail.

I read your note about the excursions. I am looking to offer this up for our guests. Did you pre book this/how far in advance did you arrange this? Did the $52 include everything? Did you leave right from the resort? How long were you gone for? What is the youngest/oldest you would recomend this for? How many people were on the catamaran? Was it private for just your guests? So many questions, I am sorry.

Dunns River Falls Party Boat: A-. We booked through Scuba Caribe (on the beach of the resort). Negotiated price from $64 per person to $52 per person. We had 22 of our guests (our of 27!) sign up for this. Originally, we planned just to do the falls and take a taxi. That wouldâ€ve been $25pp + $40 per cab. The party boat was a catamaran to the reef, where we snorkeled for an hour, then back on the catamaran to the falls, and the catamaran on the way back with rum punch and music. Very fun! The falls are harder to climb than I expected. It is REQUIRED to wear water shoes to climb Dunns River Falls. We bought ours at Target at home for $5.99. Theyâ€re $5 to rent through Scuba Caribe. It STORMED while climbed the falls – I mean lightning and thunder right on top of us – and torrential rain! Make it more exciting, haha!

We negotiated the deal while we laid on the lounge chairs in the beach the day before (wedding day morning)! SERIOUSLY! Scuba Caribe reps walk up and down the beach seeing if anyone is interested in their excursions. They work on commission - so they'll work on getting you the best deal. We worked with one woman at their physical building on the beach - she was going to give us 1 person free for our group of 22. We were talking wtih one of the reps on the beach and told him we already planned it. He said he'd get 2 of us for free (bride & groom). So we signed with him (reps actually split the commission on our booking). Instead of taking the 2 people for free, we just broke down the amount so everyone paid less money. I wrote the wrong # though...it was $58pp, now that I'm at work with a calculator! haha!

We took a small boat out from the ROR beach to the big catamaran (just off the shore) - they literally tied the boats together and we walked from one to the other. We left at 10am-ish and were back eating lunch shortly before 2. The $ included the catamaran trip, about an hour of snorkeling out at the reef, admission to Dunns River falls and rum punch on the boat. There were 3 people that were not part of our group, so no - it's not private.

We had about 6 who didn't climb the falls (the older generations - my in-laws, my aunt, his aunt, his brother b/c he was on crutches and my mom made it half way) - but there's steps the non-waterfall climbers can take. It's still gorgeous views! Plus, they took pictures of us the whole time! My mom has a really bad back and had to quit the fall climb about half-way through it. My uncle (61 yrs old) climbed the WHOLE thing! (was in a ton of pain the next day, but he did it! wink.gif) No young people in our group, but there were kids who did it there. I wouldn't let my kid do it - it could be VERY dangerous!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
