That sucks Martha!! I would print out all the atricles and take them with me to the doc next week. Demand he test you again. Tell him you are not trying to question him, but you are not comfortable with the early test after ready everything and tell him about Karma's friend.

Try not to stress about it Martha, I'm sorry if I'm causing you extra stress by telling you about my friend, I feel bad now. The chances really are slim that Noah can get sick. But I would hate to take any chances even if they are slim, KWIM. I bet he will re-test you if you let him know it really bothers you and how uncomfortable you are.

All this just confirms that I am definitely switching doctors after Noah is born. I wish I could just do it now!!!

 

I don't even want him to be the one to deliver Noah. I wonder what the chances are that he will?

 

Thanks girls....And, Karma I am glad you told us about your friend. I think it made it that easier to voice my opinion about this.

 

 

Oh and FYI...October is SIDS Awarness Month. This is another thing that stresses me out.

 

Jay asked me last night if I wanted to have another baby and I told him I didn' think so. He asked why and I told him that it's supposed to be the best time of my life and yet it is the most stressful.

Aaaawww Martha - don't stress girl!! Everything will be ok, I promise. Believe me, we are all hormonal and everything is just that much more stressful right now. Believe me, once little Noah arrives, you will feel totally different. If we stressed about everything in life there is to stress about when it comes to kids, we would be a complete mess all the time. Don't let it get to you.

I'm almost 37 weeks and I haven't had any contractions and haven't dropped yet either. We're all so different so try not to compare your pregancy with Lisa's. It will just make you worry that something is wrong. Regarding your Strep B testing.. Yes, they normally test between 35-37 weeks and I'm not sure what your doctor's reasoning might be behind the early testing (that might be a good question). Apparently the bacteria can come and go so just tell him at your next appointment you'd like to have another test for it. You're (or your insurance) is paying for it so he shouldn't have any objections. If he makes you feel stupid for asking, just tell him it's causing you stress and you'd like to have it re-done regardless. Your doctor shouldn't be causing you additional stress. You don't have to show him print outs.. it's commonly known that testing is done late in the pregnancy (35-37 weeks) as standard practice. All three agencies (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) agree.

Lisa, you look awesome and your belly does look lower! I feel bad for you ladies with all the pressure down below.. although I have the pressure up above so it's hard to sit for any amount of time.

Martha, I'm so sorry your doctor and office are being so difficult and stressing you out so much. GBS is a big deal and testing at 26 weeks seems crazy. If he won't retest you, find someone that will before you go into labor. Another option is to demand antibiotics in labor. I am a L&D RN and we give either Penicillin, Ancef or Clindamycin to GBS unknown. Our rule of thumb is to have at least one dose in for 4 hours prior to delivery. Good luck to you!

How would I get someone else to retest me if the hospital wont do it? I am asking my OB tomorrow about it. I hope he agrees to!

Do you think I could just beg and plead at the hospital for them to give me antibiotics just in case? Do the antibiotics cause harm for the baby? My friend had some and her baby was born with a fever and she was told it was probably because of the antibiotics?
