Mommies to be check in

I got the results from the genetic testing yesterday and all is well. They said the risk is 1:10,000 of having a baby with Down Syndrome or Trisomy 18. The genetic counselor said it was an excellent score for my age, so I'm very relieved. Thanks for all of the good vibes!

If you are at increased risk like 1:50, then they recommend that you do a more invasive test such as an amnio or cvs, which can tell you for sure.

I agree though, Steve thought it was such a waste to even take the tests since we are against termination.

Mike and I agreed to only get the non-invasive tests done (the u/s and bloodwork). The only reason we got them done was to have a heads up that something may be wrong. I am the type that does not like surprises, so I wanted to know 6 months ahead of time if something could be wrong so I could start researching it. There was no way that we would terminate; it was more of a "better to be prepared" attitude going into it. Thankfully, we don't need to prepare:)

Oh yeah, I totally understand. I'm a huge planner so I just wanted to know too, regardless. I did both as well, Steve just was being a cheap-o cause he didn't want to pay the $600 for them. LOL.

Do you have insurance? Mine covered the tests.

My doctor didn't even give me an option....he just scheduled the blood work.

Lizz - yah for great results!!

Just thought I'd check in. I've been off for a few days. We had to go to San Antonio for James' papa's funeral. That was a nice 5 hour drive at 7 months pregnant. Nice! Needless to say, it's been a long week. Try telling the 5 other people in the car that you have to stop every hour to pee :)

Other than that everything is still going good. I bra shopped for an hour and a half yesterday trying to find something half way comfortable for my ever growing boobs! These things are getting HUGE!!

I took my 28 week pics yesterday. I won't be able to post for a few days since my home computer is being fixed right now. I should have it back by the weekend.

Hope everyone else is feeling good!!

I had to go through all these consent forms on my first visit for which tests I did and did not want. I even signed consents for the epidural and circumcision already.
At any rate I think insurance should cover tests but I think Karma pays out of pocket because her hubby is self-employed and owns his own business. I'm glad everyone's tests turned out okay!!!

On another note, I have been doing so well the past 2 weeks eating and keeping everything down that I called the doc yesterday and asked if I could stop the IV and have the picc line removed. They agreed but since I stopped the IV fluids I have been sick non-stop just like I was before. The nurse came today and said she can't remove the picc line cuz I'm still too sick. Bummer!
I'm sorry you can't get the line removed yetsmile27.gif But at least you're feeling a little better and able to eat!

The genetic counselor explained that if the risk came back as something that Mike & I were uncomfortable with, then we could discuss amniocentisis or another test similar to that (both of which are invasive).

We have insurance, but since Steve owns his own business it is minimal. So basically we have NO maternity benefits! smile27.gif It will cover complications from pregnancy though, so god forbid something major happens that will be covered. We expect to pay about $10,000-$12,000 when it's all said and done out of pocket.

Oh, no! Poor thing. Do they have any time line for when they think you will get it out? Or are they just playing it by ear?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
