Dress Sizing for BM dresses

Ok I know all BM dresses and wedding dresses run differently but I'm wondering if anyone can give me some insight as to what the "usual" sizing is like. What I mean is if your a size 2 in street clothes let's say, what size would you be in a BM dress or gown?

 

I'm a BM in a Sept wedding and when I went to get measurements taken and order the dress they ordered it 3 sizes bigger than what my street clothes size is. Aside from running small, does anyone know if they usually order it a little bigger in case you gain weight or get pregnant?

 

Basically I'm asking b/c the dress size devestated me and I'm trying to lose weight by the time I pick it up in June so I'm trying to figure out what size I would be. I know, I know I sound completely nuts but please just bear with me and entertain my fat girl dreams.

 

Btw it was a Jim Hjelm.

Well.. I was a BM last September. I'm usually a size 2 or 4 depending on the store, but my BM dress was an 8! It was an Alfred Angelo so I'm not sure how they compare to a Jim Hjelm.. but mine was 3 sizes bigger.. made me sad too... heh!!! Although I looked good in it.

Thanks for the input! I think one of the other BM's is a 2 or 4 also in street clothes but she also got fitted for an 8. So I guess 2 to 3 dress sizes is probably the average. Uggh I don't even know why I care. LOL. I'm just terrified its going to look huge on the hanger and all the other BM's will stare at me. Needless to say I'm having nightmares about this.

Umm hello the girl even told me I had to pay extra since my size was so big they were going to need extra fabric.

I swear I keep having nightmares that the dress will look like a tent or a parachute on the hanger and everyone will see it, and then I will go try it on and it won't fit! That would be super embarassing! I think I would die.

well the good news is that at the rate you are losing weight the dress will DEFINITELY be too big

 

the bad news is that you will prob have to pay for alterations

 

but i know you would rather pay the $$ then not lose weight so it's all good!

My BM is a 3 or 5 and her dress was a size 10 when we ordered for the bridal store. We ended up getting new dresses so I ordered her a 4 petite from Nordstroms. Fit her perfect.

 

Don't even get me started on why the do this. Personally I don't understand. They want us to feel like shit? My dress size was HUGE. I'm glad I got it MONTHS before the wedding because it took me time to forget about the size.

Alyssa the dress cost me $300 w/tax and the additional charge for the plus size or whatever the heck it was. I swear to you I don't care if they told me the alterations are going to cost me $768 I would be ecstatic if it meant I wasn't the size the dress is.

 

Uggh why do they do this? I know its just a stupid number but isn't this supposed to be the happiest time of your life? So why would they make brides feel terrible about themselves.

I find that BM dresses are usually 2 sizes bigger than your regular size. They convince you to buy it even bigger than that because its always better to be too big and then you take it in whereas if its too small you are kinds screwed. So I say order the size they told you and work on losing weight and then just get it taken in close to the wedding date.

 

OR you could just not be in the wedding

Well I already ordered it. I'm fine with ordering the size they told me b/c I would rather be safe than sorry. I was just curious as to how small they normally run. I just want to prepare myself for the nightmare that will occur when June comes along. Trust me that dress is my motivation to hit the gym everyday!
