Moon Palace or Riu Yucatan? ... (Or somewhere else??)

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

New to the site, and very excited to be here. I have been so overwhelmed with the thought of planning my wedding, that I've been putting it off for months! We are planning on getting married at the end of January in the Cancun area. We have signed a contract with Moon Palace, but now Iâ€m having second thoughts. I would appreciate any opinions or suggestions anyone could offer! Keep in mind we have to stay at a place that allows children.

Simply by the pictures I've seen, Moon Palace looks to be my first choice.

The wedding gazebo looks beautiful! And I love the idea of the free wedding package where we can add only the options we want. However, the nightly rates are on the higher side, and I want to be sensitive to my friends and family that are attending.

Riu Yucatan also looks beautiful, and the nightly rate is more affordable than the Moon. However, the wedding packages are much more expensive and donâ€t seem to include as much. The upside is they can accommodate up to 50 guests where the Moon Palace only up to 35. (We already have 31 people coming, and would love to invite more!)

Thanks reading this!! Again – I would so appreciate any advice or resort suggestions! Iâ€m so confused! :)

hi roseanna,

i'm getting married at the yucatan in july. the moon palace is gorgeous! but i love the yucatan for its lushness and it's affordability. the number one thing in planning my wedding was making sure that everyone i want there would be there, so in my opinion, the riu yucatan is a great price for what you get. that being said, the wedding packages are not a bargain, i agree with you! but here's a thread with some pics and there's also information in there that i received from the wc.

We were initially wanting to get married at Le Blanc but have now chose Moon Palace because:

1 its child friendly. alot of our guests have children so we wanted them to have a great time too

2 Moon Palace is massive beyond belief! Means everyone can stay there, but the chances of everyone bumping into each other constantly during their 14 day break there are slim!

3 Their wedding package is fantastic! Horse and carriage for the father of the bride and the bride?! How great!!

4 For what your getting, its not hugely expensive

5 Its pretty near the airport - I've been told its only 10-20mins away

Hope this helps - although I know I'm going to bias for Moon Palace! :)

Hi there! I'm getting married at the Moon Palace the weekend before you!!!

They can accomodate more than 35 people. The private dinner they give you with the packages are for up to 35 people, but you can add on a reception or a coctail reception if you want, and they can definately do more than 35! We'll probably have 50-75 people.

They are a bit expensive, but I feel it's worth it. We told our guests that they don't HAVE to stay at the Moon Palace, but to make sure the price difference is worth it. We're covering the day passes for our guests for the day of our wedding, but if they want to hang out other days at our resort, we want them to know it'll cost just under $100 each.

Plus, make sure you guests know that if they stay 3 or more nights, certain excursions are actually included. Let me know if you have any questions. There are other Moon Palace brides on here too. Betsy just got back and I'm pretty sure someone else just got married there.

Good luck!!!

I just got back from the Moon Palace and it was the most beautiful resort! Everyone catered to us and helped us with anything we needed! We traveled with 2 small children and it was definitly the easiest vacation we had with them. We actually did run into people from our group a lot - there was 50 of us - by the pool, restaurants! The resort is massive but they have golf carts and a bus that runs every 10 minutes to take you from one end to the other. I definitly would give you the advice to go there. Everyone agreed that they all got there money's worth and more by going there. And the wedding coordinators were wonderful! If you have any questions just pm me and I'd be glad to help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
