No Heat OR Hot Water!!!

A bit of background info: We rent the upstairs apartment of an older home. 2 guys (who are never home - work in town, live out of town) live on the main floor & the basement is unfinished, but attached to the main floor apartment. So I tried to take a shower yesterday morning & noticed it was pretty chilly. I figured either the guys downstairs used all the hot water or we were having some minor pipe problems (older home, so it's a possibility!)

Then last night I noticed a funny, burning-like, smell wafting around. Mat was working nightshift so I was alone. I personally sniffed every electrical outlet in my apartment, as well as every vent leading from the main floor. I determined it wasn't from up here so something was downstairs. I actually thought it was cigarette smoke, but smelled alot stronger.

So finally this morning I wake up shivering in the cold!!! Checked the thermostat (guys downstairs control the heat) & it said it's only 17C in the house! Brrrrr!!!! So finally Mat drags his butt outta bed around 2 this afternoon. FINALLY Deputy Dipshit from downstairs calls to tell us there's a foot of water in the basement & it has caused the hot water tank & furnace to konk out. LOVELY! And to top it all off he claims he didn't notice until this afternoon & says he wasn't home last night (he knew Mat was nightshift so figured we didn't know any better) when I know he was home because his lights were on AND HIS TRUCK WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY!!

Now we have to wait until tomorrow morning to have someone check everything out. Mat is being MrToughGuy & saying we're going to stay here tonight despite multiple offers to go stay with friends for the night.

It's -12C outside with the wind & it's only 17C in my house right now!

Even Emma my rabbit is turning into a little bunnsicle right now! (Im plugging in a block heater for her tonight!)

Okay, phewf. That's my cold rant. Feels better!! I just typed this out while wearing leather gloves because I'm just that chilly! LOL

Awww, Emma is so cute! I miss Senor Flojo terribly sad.gif In '05 he developed a large mass on the side of his cheek and the vet said he had cancer. They took him into operate and said there was nothing they could do for him. When I told the rescue people this they refused to believe it was cancer - the lady said in her 20 years of experience she had only seen 1 rabbit with cancer before! However, I was spent - emotionally and financially. It was either put him down or give him back to them which is what I did. I don't know if he ever made it... I was just checking their website though and they have a section for "Rainbow Bridge" and he is not on it smile159.gif That gives me hope that he made it through! Hopefully he is just one spoiled little bun living with the head rescue lady. I believe she moved to CA.

Anyways I will find a picture for you and post it here. Sorry to hijack your thread! Darn bunny lovers... cheesy.gif

UPDATE: We have heat now, but no hot water! Looks like it's a city-problem (their stuff is backing up) so hopefully they take care of the rest soon!

Senor Flojo is absolutely gorgeous!!!! I've actually heard of cancer in alot of rabbits (main reason we had her spayed - females have a high risk of uterine cancer apparantly.. vet told us) Was he from Rabbit Rescuehuh.gif The rainbow bridge thing sounds familiar...

VERY happy about the heat!! Emma isn't all puffed up in a little ball anymore so I'm assuming she's much happier too! She kept giving me looks, like "seriously lady, just turn on the heat!" Such a little monkey sometimes...

I am really hoping they fix the water soon thought because after pumping it out all day, we still have 3" in the basement. Apparantly we're getting all the water from everybody on our street (we're the last house) because it's downhill & there's a blockage just on the side of our place so everyone's water is coming into our basement... until it gets too high then it will hit the neighbour before us, then the next & so on...

Times like this I am happy to be renting!! (although I feel for the landlord because it is Mat's brother!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
