What to do with BD pics after you take them?

I had mine done with Leigh and she usually posts her photos on her blog but we discussed her not doing that because I am a teacher and that could be a little weird if my students found these pics on the internet. Anyway, I made a book for DH and now that I am preggo I think he takes a little browse every once in a while, but I think its more for him to just look at when he wants, not necessarily to do anything with them.

also, I think for my DH the fact that I would take photos like that for him was very cool, I am a really modest person and he really got a kick out of me letting go and getting a little wild for him

Technically the photographer owns the rights to any images that he/she takes and has the right to post them as he/she sees fit. But in an instance such as this I would hope that they would have the good taste or the decency to ask your permission first. I know with me I always call my clients before I consider using an image from one of their sessions and my clients are typically ecstatic but then again my clients are usually 3...ahahaha! But I have done some maternity sittings that I love but would never feel comfortable using these images for marketing because I know my client would get upset.

 

So if you were to go with a reputable photographer you shouldn't have a problem with that. But to ensure that you might want to get it in writing first. But I would still do it.....you'll probably really enjoy it!

I just started working on the book. I am using Digital Photo Printing, Free Online Photo Albums & Digital Photo Sharing - Snapfish:

I booked the session with my friend who does photography on the side. I figure that it would be more comfortable with a friend and I would feel better knowing that I didnt spend a ridiculous amount on photos that would be shoved into a corner somewhere...

The photos will be pretty tasteful...probably nothing worse than Maxim or probably even more PG rated.

I think you should do it. YOUR FI will really appreciate it. Im not sure mine will. I think he will appreciate the words more... hes a nerd!

I used to be a photographer and we couldn't do anything with the images WITHOUT getting permission. We couldn't even put them up in the studio. So they do own the images but not the right to do what they wish.

Mine BD picks are on the photographers website but I had to sign a client release form before she could do it.

I made mine in a book and maybe we will leave it on the coffee table--who knows

I think it would also be a nice motivator for when you have to lose some baby weight. I look at all my early college pics and say "damn, what happened?" It would be nice to have some pics to brag about when your in your 70's too.

That's called CYA, and it's a great idea but ultimately the photographer or the studio owns the official copyright to the images. While in college I worked a mall studio and we also required that the customer sign and resign that we could use their images for anything. But in reality the photographer is protected under the United States Copyright Law. Having studied photography through 5 years of college and taken copyright classes you own what you take whether it be in a public place or a studio. But it is common practice to ask for the client to sign a model release to ensure that they are ok with you using their images not to mention if they ever try to take you court you now have the signed release.....so it's really just a CYA. Not a bad idea at all....

But I don't want anyone to have the wrong idea of what they're rights are.... unless stated in a contract between you and the photographer before the images are created, you are giving your permission when you allow the photographer to create the images. Some put a clause in their contracts to reiterate the rights that the photographer has to the images and once you sign off stating that you understand this right.

Ever wonder why naked images of celebrities might surface years later without their permission......well this is how. Again another sticky situation but that's the jist of it.

Any reputable professional photographer would never risk their reputation on something like this it wouldn't be worth it. Sorry to be a "Debbie Downer" but I just wanted to let you know your rights as well as ours....
