Worst gift ever..

For christmas one year my FMIL gave my FI and I a large (like foot long) plastic ear, play doh, and sausage. I must of had a confused look on my face because when I held up the ear she said "So you know I'm always listening." I think she meant it in a caring way, but to me it was creepy.

We we got engaged my FI grandmother threw us an engagement party. That side of his family is Chinese and into their culture. The party was lovely and she had decorated in our wedding colors. In the center of the table was a bird cage (a decorative one) with 3 oragami birds in it. I HATE birds but didn't really think much into it because I thought it was a decoration. His grandmother asked if I liked it and I told her it was really nice. She said she was glad because Aunt So-and-so had made it for us as a gift. A cousin then told us that it is called a fertility cage and each bird represents how many kids you'll have. I was soooo terrified as soon as we left I put in in the trunk of my car and forgot about it. A few weeks later we were out with grandma and were loading things into the trunk and she noticed it. FI and I told her about it and how we want kids but not now. She said "Well clearly I'm not fertile so you can store it at my place until your ready." I didn't know if I should laugh or take her up on it. Ever since then it has become a joke between our friends that we're going to hide it in their closet or under their bed so they get pregnant. The best part is, this happened in October and the birds are still riding around in my trunk. I giggle every time I open my trunk!

This is a great thread! I thoroughly enjoyed all the posts. And yes, those hands are creepy. Any statue or artwork of partial body parts or animals seem so odd. It reminds Meir the Adams family. This thread has me actually looking forward to getting a bad gift so that I can join in on the fun! :)

So, we just had our AHR.  One of my mom's friends who I have never liked (and who showed up in a t-shirt and sweat pants) gave us an expired Chia Pet.

I mean... it's not just a Chia Pet.  It's one that I can't even use because it expired last year!!  Can anyone say obvious regift?

Oh wow... adding insult to injury! I guess you kind of have to laugh at it to keep from crying, right?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
