She gave us a statue of two hands, one putting a ring on the other, like during a proposal. I get the symbolism seeing as we just got engaged, but really, the floating hands are just creepy. We've been storing it on top of a bookcase in case she comes over and wants to see it. My mom thought it was great, I don't get it. But here's a photo, what do you think??

Jenn, that may be one of the oddest things I have ever seen. At least if you ever have a break-in, you have something to use as a weapon - it looks quite heavy!

I've had some BAD gifts over the years... My grandparents are infamous for giving those sweatshirts with kittens or horses on the front that have a mock t-shirt collar on the inside, like this one:

And they're always two sizes too small or too big.

Anyway, as soon as I saw this thread, I thought of an easter gift from my Mom. It's those big decals that you put on your wall. I had been telling Mom that I was thinking of getting one that had a nice saying or something, like "Live Laugh Love" or whatever for the wall over my table, so she goes and buys me one...

She bought a set of two, the top one says "Twinkle, twinkle little star, do you know how loved you are?" and the bottom one says "I hope you dance" with ballerina slippers.

Really mom? I'm 24, not 4 lol I'm starting a new job next month and I'm hoping I'll find a co-worker with a little girl so I can give it away lol

My grandparents would ALWAYS get us clothing like that as well! My grandma like to knit too, so sometimes we'd be lucky and get one she knit herself with a giant animal on it. And if we were really lucky, she'd have sewed big googly eyes onto said animal.

Oh wow, these are awesome! Jenn, I love your bronzed hands sculpture-candleholder-weapon! Someone actually thought up that design and then made it! so wrong.

Ha! I think we had the same grandma! I had a homemade hot pink gumby sweatshirt done in puff paint.

I used to have 2 cats. I love cats (& dogs), but for some reason my ex-SIL decided that every gift she gave me had to involve cats. So I received a teal blue ceramic cat teapot, a cat sweatshirt (much like futuremrsl's), a cat totebag, framed cat pictures, cat coasters and I even think there was a cat platter. I was in my 20's, not my 80's! Seriously, who makes this crap?

This isn't the actual piece, but you get the idea. Somehow it didn't make it when I moved. wink.gif

OMG, these have me cracking up!! The hands are SUPER creepy and they do look really heavy.

I've never had the pleasure of receiving a terrible sweatshirt or anything like this. I'm not good at hiding how I really feel so it wouldn't go over well. How do you girls keep a straight face when you receive gifts like this?!

I too have grandparents who like to give presents like that. A couple years ago I got a hat and scarf set with mooses(not sure the plural of moose lol, we don't exactly have those here) and snowflakes on it.

Last year my sister who is 13 got a giant blanket with High School Musical on it. I think we just figured out that they think we're all 8.

Luckily they live on the east coast so they don't get to see our looks of "surprise" when we open their presents.

The plural of Moose is actually... Moose lol But, I'm fighting to change it to Meese, one argument at a time...

Goose = Geese, so why can't Moose = Meese?

I've already convinced my entire class (including the prof) that it needs to be Meese lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
