Athena! You are going to LOVE the Royal. The staff is just so wonderful and my guests were so happy with the decision we made. You really feel so spoiled when you are there. I'm actually in the process of writing my review since I now have my complete photographer pictures and watched most of our video. So I'll have lots of tips for you! Look out for it!

Thanks Elizabeth! How lucky was I to get to shoot such a beautiful bride?

I agree, there is nothing more fun than to photograph an expressive bride on the happiest day of her life! How wonderful that you were able to capture all that emotion!

i'm wondering when we can shoot together!

I hope very soon! thewave.gif That sounds like so much fun! smile123.gif

Hi everyone-

It's confirmed that we are getting married at the Royal PDC on Nov. 21, 2008! We are so excited. Many thanks to all of you, especially Becky, for answering questions and sending information to help make our decision. Now the questions really start!!

It's time to send STDs and get started with Invitations. My question is what is the best way to have guests make their reservations? I'd love for them to have one place to call to book the resort, airfare, and ground transport...maybe a travel agent? What did you find worked the best? Does the hotel secure a block of rooms for you and if so, how do I go about that? I read that some of you had guests contact the royal directly in order to get a confirmation number. Just wondering if you have any tips that made things run smoothly for your guests.

One more thing, did you sign any initial contract or any paperwork to secure your date?

Many many thanks!

Katy

Hi Katy!

I too am getting married at the Royal in November! I skipped the STDs and just sent invites because I wanted to give everyone as much time as possible to book the flights. I felt like a STD may not have enough critical information for guests to feel comfortable booking. I used a travel agent and listed his contact information on the invitation (and put some info on our website). He has assisted our guests with the flights, hotel and transfers to and from the airport.

As for the Royal and a room block, I put aside a bunch of rooms and had to sign a contract (with a deposit for each room). Then, once my guests book the rooms, I get my money back. For the rooms we don't use, I can cancel those up to 90 days before the wedding and get 100% back. My TA had a negotiated rate that he worked out with the Royal that was cheaper than booking online. However, just recently my fiances family in NY found an AA package with flight and hotel at the Royal for less than booking them separately so there may be alternatives. Good luck with your next steps! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Hi Jen,

I am having my ceremony at the Royal too but the reception at the Gran - where we are all staying. I wonder if the procedures are the same? I have to call them back this week. Even though I have lots of time, I am still nervous! I just hope I can get the best deal for everyone!!

Thanks for sharing this information!

Thanks so much Jen. It's hard to know what to do. We just built a website too, to list all the details, etc. and have decided to still send a STD but omit a lot of the info and just reference the website. We will have a lot to talk about between now and November!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
