Welcome Futuremrr!

I am getting married at Ladera resort next month. We are bringing our own photograhper and filmographer.  Our wedding package includes an arch and I chose pink and white ginger lilies for that-- I originally chose pink bouganvillea when the original wedding was to be in Nov of last year--had to reschedule the date because of Hurricane Tomas, but was told April was not the time when pink bouganvillea was in season.  For my bouquet I am doing different shades of pink orchids.  What I did was to just send pics to the wedding planner that the resort provided with pics of the flowers  I wanted and she could check with her florist to find out if they could get them. Did the same thing with the cake--just sent a pic of the one I wanted and they said they could do it. I also checked with the wedding planner at the resort that once I got to the island and went over everything and didn't like something if I could change things and she said yes to that too.

I'm getting married in St. Lucia on 11/11/11, and I although I love the idea (and end result) of a destination wedding, it has it's own set of stressors that are unique!  I have a wedding planner, but I've found now, that I want to hear from real brides and not just the people selling me stuff!

What are you all doing about flowers? Any excellent photographer recommendations?  My planner has us booked with Bill Mortley, who seems ok, but I have been wondering if there are others out there, who are great but less known. Have any of you stayed at Cap Maison?  We are staying there, and I wonder what others' experiences may be.

Thank you ladies in advance, and I SO look forward to hearing from you!

Fiancee gave me his cold and I am feeling absolutely miserable today and stayed home for work. crybaby2.gif

Been stressing about how to get my dress and his suit on the plane. . . so found online at wallybags.com a garmet bag that is waterproof and is specially designed for wedding dresses and can hold a wedding dress + tux and other garments with pockets for shoes. It also has a lock on the top to keep the garmets on the hangers and can be folded in half and put in the overhead bin if it must go in there.  It was kinda pricey at $170 + shipping, but now i have the ease of mind of knowing both the dress and his suit will be protected no matter what and will not get crumpled.

Picked up the OOT bags from being embroideded and they look fabuous!! Will post some pics as soon as I feel a bit better.

Ordered a handheld steamer from shoprowenta.com -- my hotel does not have their own steamer, but said they could send it off someone. I was like no thank you to that option-- my dress is not leaving my sight for anything. So went ahead and bought my own-- it was like $29 or something like that. One thing my bridal boutique told me about steaming a wedding dress was to make sure you do NOT steam it directly with the steamer. Make sure you wrap some cheesecloth around the head of the steamer when you steam the dress so the steam doesn't directly hit the dress.

Ordered a couple of bathing suits from victoria's secret and some coverups too.

Mailed the necessary docs to my wedding planner to get our marriage license. My fiancee was married before and they needed a certified copy of his divorce decree with raised seal.  When I mailed it to St.Lucia the post office told me it would take like a week to get there and I am from NC-- just FYI for any of yall needing to mail anything down there. It cost me like $6.00 to mail it-- was a document of 5 pages.

Will be ordering my menu cards and havianas this week and that should be it.

One funny aside I thought I would share. Fiancee who has had absolutely no input about the wedding since he had no desire to be . .. told me over the weekend he was starting to panic about having to pack for the wedding. I was like really? You are panicking about packing? I am stressing out about our pre-wedding event, wedding, dress, hair, makeup, guests, photographer, filmographer, favors, OOT bags!!  All I could do was laugh at him and tell him to get over it.

Hope all is well with your wedding planning!!

Monica, how funny about your fiance.  Mine has 0 stress...I don't think he will be the one packing, anyway.

You're ordering havaianas?  I love them!!!! My favorite flip flop for years.  I purchased them on sale (from Gap) this winter for my OOT bags.  Are you wearing them for your ceremony?  I still haven't decided on my shoes and would love to just wear a pair of H's, but I think my mom would kill me.

Welcome Futuremrr !

I am sure you will find this forum useful and quite addictive!

Like a lot of brides, I am using the resort vendors.  But I do know that a bride here, Julee, is getting married at Villa Capri and had sourced some vendors.  Maybe your wedding planner can help with that too.

Monica Mai, for a girl with a cold, you are VERY productive!

You are almost ready to go!...

Thanks for the tip with the steamer...Are you bringing the dress in the cabin?  I am bringing the dress in the aircraft cabin for sure!

Thank you all for your welcomes!  I'll keep my eyes open for helpful info, and reading some of the older posts has been helpful too.  My fiance is pretty hands off too, except when it came to choosing the honeymoon resort.  He turned into a primadonna for that one!  I think in some ways its nice for one person in the couple to not be stressed.  There's someone to help maintain the sanity!

So question for yall -- what are you going to wear while you're getting ready for the big day? I've seen brides with cute white tracksuits with Bride in sequins on it and think that's super cute, but being in St. Lucia a tracksuit would be way too hot to wear.  Was wondering what you ladies have thought of.

Thanks!!

I've only heard rave reviews about havianas so I thought I'd get a couple for me for the weddingmoon. So glad you like them too!! I'm going to wear them to our pre-wedding dinner on the beach-- I have this cute white linen dress I am wearing to it. For the ceremony I splurged about bought Jimmy Choos!!  woot.gif The ceremony is on a pavilion so I won't have to worry about sinking into the sand.

Hi all!

Well, I had lots of reading to do!  Oh LilyRose, how amazing this little chart!  As you can see, I filled in the blanks for my section!  We just officialized our date this morning actually, along with the Where.  Sandals Halcyon, April 4, 2012!  I took your advice on the full moon cycle, the full moon will be on the 6th.  And Easter that year will be the 8th, but since St.Lucia is not really that big into Roman Catholic, it's not a big deal.  We will be paying the $500 for the Beautiful Beginnings theme with the express licence (we arrive on Monday, wedding on Wednesday), but I am having the magenta orchids replaced with white ones.  I will be adding accents of pewter and teal from things I'll be making myself with ribbons, feathers and bling.

I can't wait for the reviews of Monica Mai and wilsonj2!  We want to go to Ladera for our honeymoon.  I saw some videos on YouTube of people filming their rooms and giving a video-tour.  It's seems amazing!  I'm just really afraid of big spiders... smile67.gif

Oh, somebody mentioned Jimmy Choo...I also splurge on the shoes.  I love shoes, so I went all the way.  I wanted Louboutin (I am a sucker for the red sole), but then found these shoes with a silver sparkle sole!  Even better!  My shoes are the reason why one of our wedding color is pewter.  Now let's see if I can manage to attach a picture...Caovilla shoes 1.JPG

Congrats on setting a date MEve!  I will take lots of pictures if we visit Halcyon, and I'm sure some of the wedding details will be the same.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
