Getting wedding attire & favors to Cabo

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm at a loss! My wedding gown is not easily packed. Is there a suggested method on how to transport your wedding dress through the airline? Also, for those who are bringing wedding favors for their guests, how do you plan on taking those? I was told by the WC at Riu that it is definately not a good idea to ship anything. . .any suggestions are appreciated!! Thanks!

The bridal store where you purchase your dress from and where you do your alterations, will press and package your gown appropriately. Just let them know that you intend on taking it on the plane with you to Cabo. I wouldn't let the dress out of my sight! Bring it on the plane with you, you can put it either in the airplane closet, sit with it on your lap, or ask the flight attendants to give you an overhead bin designated only to you. Either way, I wouldn't leave it out of my sight for any reason. Airlines are really understanding, they see alot of brides flying south.

As for the favours, I think it depends how much stuff you have. You can have it shipped early, or you can bring it with you on the plane as checked luggage.

I carried my gown on board, I didn't want to take a chance in case luggage got missing (which I'm glad I did, because one suitcase didn't make it down with us, it showed up that evening... thank God!). I packed on favors and wedding decorations in a separate suitcase.

And don't ship any glass. I shipped my centerpeice vases and all but 2 were completely broken. The box I shipped them in looked like they played soccer with it.

We packed wedding favors and other misc. stuff in one suitcase that we checked.

Also depending on how big, thick, poofy, if it's a relatively slim line dress I've seen quite a few dresses being packed in the dress bag, then rolled (not tightly), and stowed in the overhead bin, this seems to work as far as stowing it goes, and hopefully cuts down on wrinkles since it's rolled in the bag and not folded.

Carrying the dress around was the biggest PIA. My first flight didn't have a closet- it was a tiny ass plane. My dress got stored in the overhead bin- thankfully no one put any luggage in with it. My connecting flight put it in the 1st class closet- but it's like a half closet so it got all bunched up at the bottom. I traveled spring break and was able to find spots for my dress so I'm sure most girls shouldn't have too much problems.

As for favors and my centerpieces, I packed them in my suitcase. I didn't designate a specific suitcase for it, but instead rolled the breakables in my clothes. Nothing broke thankfully.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
