My ceremony time sucks

Recommended Posts

I'm getting married in Punta Cana by a civil judge (were having a legal ceremony). I had to wait until now to find out when my time was because the judge decides the time, you can suggest a time but he ultimately decides what time he will hold your ceremony. So in November when i put my deposit down, i requested a 6pm wedding but would be fine with anytime between 4-6.

I find out today, that the judge gave me 1pm. wtf.gif

What the hell am i going to do with that time? I was plannnig a reception with fire dancers, tiki torches, a big beach BBQ. the ceremony is only 20 minutes so reception would start at 2, can't have fire dancers at 2 and can't have tiki torches. That would just look stupid. what's the point of having a reception. rant.gif

I already got stuck with a Thursday wedding cause Frid and Saturday were booked now i'm getting stuck with a daytime. I'm sorry to go off, but this is like the tenth obstacle i've had planning this wedding. this may seem little but it pisses me off!

The weather in Nov is like 85 degrees, which i don't think is bad but fi is always hot. So he's not too happy about that time. I was more worried about the reception.

We talked about doing a legal ceremony here but i was nervous about it because i was afraid our guests would find out (you need one witness) and I really wouldn't want anyone to know. i'll have to talk to fi about it, he's all for doing the legal here.

Sorry to hear that Danielle...chances are they prob wont change your time bc as you may know theres only one judge in all of punta cana (but it wouldn't hurt to try). What about having your ceremony at 1pm and still having your reception later on in the evening? Guests will have a long break (which sucks but they can relax and have drinks) and this way you can still have those things you really wanted like the fire dancers, tiki torches, etc. When I was going to get legally married over there, they gave me a 2pm slot...and I didn't like it. But then FI & I decided it would be best to get married in the US and have a symbolic ceremony in Punta Cana...so my new time became 6pm. Best of luck...I know this is really stressing you out, hope it works out for you.

for the girls getting married legally in US, did you tell anybody? I would just feel so awful if my guests found out, i wouldn't want them to think that they were paying to go to a "fake wedding", even though to me and fi it would be are real wedding. Am I just being nervous about nothing?

Only my parents know and my aunt (which I wish I wouldnt have told my aunt bc she may tell other relatives but their not going anyway). I told FI to keep his lips shut about the subject also bc I thought the same thing--people are under the assumption you are getting legally married out there, etc...but like you said, you will consider it your "real" wedding anyway.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
