My ceremony time sucks

Recommended Posts

I'm getting married in Punta Cana by a civil judge (were having a legal ceremony). I had to wait until now to find out when my time was because the judge decides the time, you can suggest a time but he ultimately decides what time he will hold your ceremony. So in November when i put my deposit down, i requested a 6pm wedding but would be fine with anytime between 4-6.

I find out today, that the judge gave me 1pm. wtf.gif

What the hell am i going to do with that time? I was plannnig a reception with fire dancers, tiki torches, a big beach BBQ. the ceremony is only 20 minutes so reception would start at 2, can't have fire dancers at 2 and can't have tiki torches. That would just look stupid. what's the point of having a reception. rant.gif

I already got stuck with a Thursday wedding cause Frid and Saturday were booked now i'm getting stuck with a daytime. I'm sorry to go off, but this is like the tenth obstacle i've had planning this wedding. this may seem little but it pisses me off!

Would you consider making it legal before you get there? I am so excited we are doing it this way. Mike gets to plan "marriage day" because I'm planning the wedding day.

Like the hottest time of day!!! I would try to re-schedule or perhaps do marry legally here and have your ceremony there. We are doing that:)

Have you looked at the temperature at 1pm in november? maybe it's not so bad. Also, it might get dark a lot earlier.

I agree though, a 1:00 wedding is tricky.

I'm sorry you're going through all of this.

Morgan had a good point, why don't you make a legal ceremony at home just the 2 of you and have symbolic in Punta Cana.

The weather in Nov is like 85 degrees, which i don't think is bad but fi is always hot. So he's not too happy about that time. I was more worried about the reception.

We talked about doing a legal ceremony here but i was nervous about it because i was afraid our guests would find out (you need one witness) and I really wouldn't want anyone to know. i'll have to talk to fi about it, he's all for doing the legal here.

Sorry to hear that Danielle...chances are they prob wont change your time bc as you may know theres only one judge in all of punta cana (but it wouldn't hurt to try). What about having your ceremony at 1pm and still having your reception later on in the evening? Guests will have a long break (which sucks but they can relax and have drinks) and this way you can still have those things you really wanted like the fire dancers, tiki torches, etc. When I was going to get legally married over there, they gave me a 2pm slot...and I didn't like it. But then FI & I decided it would be best to get married in the US and have a symbolic ceremony in Punta Cana...so my new time became 6pm. Best of luck...I know this is really stressing you out, hope it works out for you.

for the girls getting married legally in US, did you tell anybody? I would just feel so awful if my guests found out, i wouldn't want them to think that they were paying to go to a "fake wedding", even though to me and fi it would be are real wedding. Am I just being nervous about nothing?

Only my parents know and my aunt (which I wish I wouldnt have told my aunt bc she may tell other relatives but their not going anyway). I told FI to keep his lips shut about the subject also bc I thought the same thing--people are under the assumption you are getting legally married out there, etc...but like you said, you will consider it your "real" wedding anyway.

    • I know it is really tough job to get everything at best cost. I would like to suggest to contact local wedding planner or decorators to get the quotes. It will take some time but by comparing different quotes you will get the best package.
    • If you want to enjoy your wedding then go for a dance floor. It is a precious moment of your life and you should enjoy it.
    • As you have said it is going to be a beach wedding so I would recommend a combination of Calla Lily and Daffodil. You can also use Calla lily or Daffodil individually. Both the flowers have different colors so it will easily attract anyone.

    • I’m a wedding planner/organizer by profession. Truth be told, I don’t have that much experience in the industry but I’m doing the best I can. We will be working on a wedding next month with a foreign couple. I’m usually the one who handles everything on behalf of the bride during the day so I need some tips and advice on how to handle brides from foreign countries. Do they need special accommodations? What are the kinds of services they are used to when under pressure? What kind of snacks should I offer them during breaks or when they’re hungry? Thanks so much in advance.
