Covered Bridge Proposal

Recommended Posts

I'll have to backtrack a little to set this one up. FI and I had been dating almost 5 1/2 years and for several of those years had been talking about getting married, buying a house, etc. Well, years go by and no proposal - there were always other priorities for FI - paying off student loans, saving for a house down payment, etc. My argument was that we could be married and work on those things together.

Long story short, I broke up with FI for about a month, and fate stepped in. I'd been out attempting to see a guy I'd gone out with a few times since we'd split, but I got lost, and never made it to see this other guy. FI and I ended up talking on AIM and he asked me out for a drink. We went to a local bar, had a few drinks, and ended up talking about how rough the last few weeks had been. All I remember is this goofy grin he had on his face - he'd never looked at me that way before. He asked me how much time a ring would buy him, and I told him 1 year. Next thing I know I'm with my ex-boyfriend (soon to be future FI) in his car and driving to a local covered bridge. I remember thinking to myself, "Amanda, you can't get back together with him without a commitment. That is why you left him."

At this particular bridge, people write all kinds of things on the inside such as "Jane loves John." He got out a flashlight and a marker and started writing a message inside the bridge. He ended up writing, "Amanda will you marry me?" I think that's when I passed out - JK!

What's cute is that we always joked about the engagement ring being a Swarovski crystal duck (don't ask - I don't know how that got started!), and that's what he initially pulled out instead of the ring. So cute, and he did have the actual ring as well.

Sorry this is so long - I haven't thought about that night in this much detail in a while - it gives me goosebumps all over again! I think that fate works in mysterious ways.pinkie.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
