Hi everyone,

just looking for a bit of advice on Dreams Cancun (can't find what I need on the other threads!!).

Am planning on getting married in Dreams Cancun in July 2009 and have been in contact with Claudia to see how much this is all going to cost!

We have around 20 -30 guests coming and most of them are planning on staying All inclusive in the hotel. Claudia has sent me prices for the wedding packages and it includes extra charges per person for food and drink on the day on an hourly basis.

Is this right? The guests will be all inclusive anyway so do we need to pay extra on the day? Seems a bit silly!!

Thanks for the help xx

The packages include up to 20 people, for any people over that you pay a fee pp

The only hourly charge I can think of that you are referring to is if you want to add hours on to your reception because they only allow you a certain amount of time.

The drinks are included.

The reason you pay extra for your reception is because you are having a private event, so you have your own waitstaff that setup your event, serve your dinner, and bring you drinks.

does that answer your questions?

Hiya,

thanks so much for your reply, that makes it a bit clearer. So for 20 guests staying at the hotel the package will include the reception dinner and drinks then if there are any extra people we pay an additional charge per person even if they stay at the hotel.

Makes sense with the service etc we get privately for the reception.

How long do they give you for the reception? Did you have to pay for additional hours? I notice that there is a charge per person of $10 + 15% service and 10% tax per person per each additional hour for an open bar is that right?

What package did you go for? Was there a lot included in that or was there a lot of extras you have to pay for?

Sorry there are so many questions!!!!!! Thanks again for your help xxx

Don't get me started!! lol I'm trying to sort out my wedding for May 2009 and what started off as a reasonably decent package is blowing out of proportion.

Also be aware you have to pay 50% up front! I'm discussing that with her because I don't even know when the flights will be released from Newcastle, I think its April 2009, so this could end up costing way too much cash.

I also asked why we had to pay extra when we were AI and got the same answer as TA Jill has given you. Even so the rates per person after that are huge considering it is one menu and everyone gets the same - be aware of that! I've just had to pick the menus and unless you like sea food you are stuffed! lol

I've been told the cocktail bit is an hour and they give you 3 hours for the reception. If you want the international bar open after that yeah you have to pay the $10 + 25% per person

We are going for the biggest package because of the photographs but I'm trying to clear up a few issues with that at the moment.

You'll see there are some really helpful threads about the hotel etc and it is gorgeous but keep an eye on the costs and bear in mind none of the legal fees are included so that is extra.

If there is anything else give me a shout, I've been trying to do this for a couple of months now and getting info from Claudia isn't always easy lol

I am kind of in the same situation. My wedding is May 30,2009, but I was told that I can't get airfare until July 2008. I received the contract from Claudia stating that I need to pay 50% by May 12th. I really do not want pay anything , not knowing if I am goign to have any issues with airfare or hotel...hope that makes sense

Total sense but I may have a cunning plan lol not sure how ethical but hey lmao

If she pushes for the 50% i'm downgrading my package to the basic then I'm not paying much then when its sorted upgrade it again lmao

I'm so evil you can tell I'm a lawyer lmao

Thank God there are people going through what i'm going thru!!

When she says 50% up front is that just for what package you want ie. 50 % of $2650 for the biggest package? or do you need to include all the extras and know numbers at this stage (I don't know numbers as there are so many people that they MIGHT come!)

Think we are going for the biggest package cause it includes decoration etc of the gazebo (there is a huge charge for that too!) and it includes a Mexican trio which again has a big charge!

We are booking through the travel agents and can't book everything till the middle of this month, it's so frustrating as I have been in contact with Claudia about dates and she has confirmed a couple of dates that are free for us but I can't go ahead and book it until we book through the Travel agents!! I'm scared the dates won't be there when we finally book!!

The travel agent was explaining that if we book one of the higher grade rooms for the 2 weeks we can get the lowest package free, is there any compromise to get the biggest package at a reduced rate if you are booking one of the dearer rooms??

Thanks again xx

Its 50% of everything, extra guests the lot. The way to hold the date is to fill in the Q&A and she should then hold it for you until you can confirm your flights at least. That's what I've done at the min and at least u aren't then worrying about the date.

The gazebo is NOT decorated, the put a red carpet down, put flowers as a centrepiece and put covers on the chairs, they don't decorate the gazebo! I know because I'm in discussions with her about it lol

When have they said your flights will be out? I've been told flights for Newcastle won't be out until end of April and Edinburgh and Newcastle aren't that far apart.

Yeah thats true about the lower package, but as you can see it includes nothing and you are probably in the end paying more than the freebie for the room. They don't negotiate and even if you go for the upgraded package they won't knock anything off for the fact youre in an expensive room, trust me I tried lol

We've decided to go for a standard room or whatever is reasonable at the time of booking, go for the largest package which includes an upgraded room whenyou get there (if available). We probably wont spend much time in the room in any event so it doesn't really matter.

Claudia will get a shock 2 scottish weddings within a couple of months lol FI is determined to wear his kilt, I've warned him he'll pass out and he's too big for me to pick up lol

Hope this helps if you need anything else let me know x

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
