Found this on a website this morning, and just thought I'd share with all my fellow DR brides-to-be:~)

  • MAMAJUANA - Also known as Dominican "Viagra"

(this medicinal drink contains rum, wine, honey & mixed herbs)

  • COFFEE - The best is called "Santo Dominigo"

(3rd best in the world after Brazil & Colombia)

  • LARIMAR - Dominican Republic's national gemstone

(the only place in the world where this blue stone is found)

  • FACELESS DOLL - Ceramic doll usually made from red clay

(these dolls depict Dominican country life)

  • "151" RUM - Known locally as Dominican "Gasoline"

(clear white rum containing 75.5% alcohol)

  • CIGARS - Brand names like Cohiba & Arturo Fuente

(the DR is the leading manufacturer of Hand Rolled cigars)

The DR has wondeful art work also, I bought a few beautiful paintings on canvas while there. You can find them everywhere so really bargain them down for about a 1/3 of what they star the price at. That pretty much goes for everything you buy there. We bargained down great prices for our cigars, we had a cigar table at our wedding which went over really well for the men and women, we got flavoured cigars for the women.

The coffee is fabulous there! It was about $6 for a medium sized can. The canvas paintings are gorgeous and everywhere, very colorful and fun. The larimar is incredible, a little more expensive then I wanted to pay ($125 for a quarter size piece on a necklace) but in actuality that really is not that much. The cigars were great too. I had a cuban Romeo Y Julieta which was $30. We were warned not to buy cigars just from anyone on the beach but to stick with people from the resorts or shops because you never know whats in those other ones, ha! Never saw the faceless dolls. We did manage to find a bottle opener in the shape of a penis, yikes!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
