January 2009 ROR Brides

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

Just seeing if anyone was getting married at Riu Ocho Rios in January 2009.

I thought it might be neat if I found someone on the site that was getting married the same day or even week as me.

If you have, help me with a few things. Have you booked your trip yet? Did you have trouble getting your date? Did you find the travel agents didn't have all rates just yet? When are you sending out invites.

cheers to all. This is a very exciting time for all of us and I would like to share experiences with all of you :)

Hi! I know there are several of us Jan 2009 brides on here.

My wedding is on Monday Jan 5th @ 4:00. We will be there Dec 31st - Jan 10th (tenatively).

I am working w/ a TA but we have not booked anything yet. I have guests coming from different places for different lengths of time - so we aren't doing a group rate. I believe we will book in June-ish when all the rates come out so we will be sending out invites in like May. (We sent out STDs in January)

I have been trying to book my date since last November... so was watching since then for them to open 2009 availability. I was lucky and got both the date and time that I wanted.

How about you? When will you be there? Have you booked yet?

Haven't booked quite yet as I am waiting for a couple more rates to come in. Hopefully my wedding should be booked this coming week though (excited!!). Do you know how that works?? How long will Riu keep your date without you or guests being booked??Did you find it was very stressful booking and trying to decide where to gohuh.gif My god, everyone was telling me what to do.

You should have a blast. You can ring in your new year in style in Jamaica!!!

Yeah it was stressful waiting for our date to come in. If you look somewhere in the Jamaica thread ... there is one titled "Calling all 2009 ROR brides" or something .... which was the point we were all trying to make our reservations.

My personal issue was on a Thursday in February they emailed me back telling me 2009 wedding booking wouldn't occur until March or April. Well 2 days later on Saturday they opened up the booking... which kinda pissed me off. But in the long run I got what I wanted and things worked out.

You will get an email telling you whether the date you requested is available. If it is, you will get a number and you need to go to the RIU website and confirm the date/time. This requires a hotel reservation though... which most girls don't have yet. I believe if your TA does that portion for you, they can work something out?

I beleive someone said they would hold your date for 2 months(?) I'm not sure exaclty how it works... my TA is taking care of that portion since we haven't booked yet and therefore don't have a reseravation number to confirm the date.

Hi there, we are booked to arrive in Jamaice January 11th, and we are staying 2 weeks. Our wedding is booked for January 16 at 4:00. And I totally agree, it was disappointing that the resort told everyone that March or April is when they could start booking, thank god I checked this website, because the week we are there is almost booked up for wedding times, or at least on the Riu website it shows that. We have been to a few different winter hot spots, and Jamaica is one that I have wanted to go to for awhile. We wanted a destination wedding and Jamaica seems like the easiest, paperwork wise, to get married at. You don't have to change all your documents over to spanish, which is a big plus.

We have put our deposits down, and the flight time is tentatively confirmed. Our TA said it was a 'pre registration', we were told that March or April is when the tour operator will be confirming the flights.

We are pretty excited, although trip advisor has not had the best reviews of the Riu lately, but what can you do!

Congrats to all!

Hi! I'm getting married at the ROR the same week as you, on January 20th (I just posted a message this effect on your noobie post). I'm pretty sure that there's someone else on the forum actually getting married on the 22nd at the ROR. Check the big list of everyone's dates in "When's your ROR Wedding" thread (I think that's what it's called).

Anyways, I don't have too much organized yet but would be happy to chat and plan along with you. I have my wedding date and time reserved, but haven't put our deposit down on the trip. I think that they'll hold it for about 3 months but I could be wrong. We're planning on putting our deposit down pretty soon though.

I haven't gotten any other price quotes from other travel agents as I figured that since Sunquest is the only provider, and my quotes are from their group booking office, that there wouldn't be a difference. I'd be interested in chatting with you to see what your prices are. We could compare.

Also, I'm looking at photographers and was thinking about trying to find someone that wanted to share the travel costs of bringing a photographer down there. Let me know if you might be interested.

PM me if you want to chat about anything else. There's tons of helpful info on here too.

Happy planning!

Hi there! Were getting married January 14th at 11:00. We arrive January 10th and are staying for 2 weeks.

I just sent out my invitations last week. We have 5 rooms (10 ppl)booked so far to reserve our group rate. The only issue that I ran into was I would have preferred a later wedding time; but nothing else was available. I'm okay with 11:00 now though; since it will give us extra time for pictures and stuff.

Does anyone know how many months in advance that Chandlyn contacts you to make plans?

I am getting married January 22, 2009 at 4pm at ROR. I have book my trip with a TA. We have booked our min for a group rate and that gave us a booking number which we were able to use for RIU. Out travel agent was great at getting us a rate for that time. The only thing we dont know is when our flight will be. It would be the Satuday +/- 1 day out of Toronto. All of our guests know that.

We sent out invitations already, last week. They are kinda STD/invitations with a link to a free website we setup. We did it this early because we wanted people to know ahead of time. I thought there was no reason to send out both a STD and invitation.

Any questions just PM me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
