Is it OK to put Maxim magazines in the OOT bags for the guys?

I had no idea that people didn't like Maxim. I'm of the same mind as Morgan...to me it's just a boy version of Cosmo. Goofy articles, sex tips and girlie pics. (whereas Cosmo always has the cheesy boy pics)

IMO it just depends on the crowd you're making the bags for. If it were my & David's peers then I'd do it for sure. But yeah, I can't see me putting a Maxim in my FIL's or an uncle's bag or something - that would be a little odd to me. I'd say do a variety if you want. Some Maxim, money mags whatever.... Depending on how many you're doing this for, you could always supplement the maxim subscription with a few new mags...like Golf (my dh would LOVE this), car mags, Sports Illustrated etc. And I think Half Price Books even sells magazines...so that might be worth a look if you need extras.

I bought DH a subscription to Maxim for Xmas - so obviously I wouldn't care. You know your guests best though so you have to make the call.

I think it's funny when DH's Maxim come in the mail- he walks around chanting "Nudie Magazine Day! Nudie Magazine Day!"

To tell you the truth Magazines are awesome gifts. I dont think it would be bad to give them the magazines its not like there are naked women. I do wedding photography and I spend a lot of time looking at all kinds of different books and magazines and in some of the photography books I do look in they will have naked women. Its a very common thing to see in the photography world and to be honest, unless it is really taste-less theres no harm. Anyone of those guys could be in a book store and not even know what they are picking up and could have worst pictures. I say go for it!

And therein lies the problem a lot of women have with their men-folk reading "skin rags". I know Maxim is far classier than many. But for some women...it gives them, a negative body image. You know what I'm saying. Many women see their guy looking at something like that and they feel as though THAT is what he wishes he had. Afterall, he's looking, right? Don't beat me up...I'm just saying how it is for a lot of ladies out there. We are already our own toughest critics. These are the same women that have issues with their men watching porn. "What, I don't give you what you need?"

Me? Like the other ladies here, I wouldn't care. Hell, I've been known to point out beautiful women to him. But I do know lots who would. Especially if they come in from the beach wearing their bathing suits and see their men sitting on the bed reading Maxim. rofl.gif

very true. I'm not going to throw them in. It's not worth possibly upsetting someone. The guys can just read the tabloids I'm throwing in for the ladies. Instead of airbrushing in those, they tend to try to get the celebs looking their worst :)

That is exactly what I wanted to say but didn't have time too. And it was said better than I could have said it myself!!

Honestly, with Brian, I don't mind so much, but with boyfriends in the past I would have bawled my eyes out if I caught them reading a Maxim. But I dated some pretty crappy guys in the past who promoted self esteem issues in me. Even though those pictures have the hell airbrushed out of them, some guys still held me up to fulfilling that standard, and to this day I'm still working on my self-esteem because of a really negative relationship in which I was basically told on a daily basis I wasn't good enough because I didn't look like that.

So, yeah, not that this has anything to do with me, just wanted to say that although, yeah, thereotically it's silly to get mad at stuff like that, you don't know what past issues some of those girls would have and since you want everyone to have fun in your wedding, I would just stick to non-threatening reading material!!!

Plus honestly, I know guys secretly love those tabloids! I've caught so many of my guy friends reading my US Weekly!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
