I know we have a whole thread about pictures of our rings...but I was curious how "non-traditional" my fiance and I are...

how many of you helped to pick out your ring?

Were you completely surprised about your ring?

I would love to hear stories about picking out the ring...

I will start with my story. My FI told me he thought he would pick out a solitaire for me (which I so did not want) and my grandmother had a family heirloom ring that I really liked. However he felt that the ring he gives me should be from him so we started looking around in early January getting ideas of prices and styles, I really liked antique looking rings and wanted a ring that I could have a wedding band with as well. One day in early Feb 06 we went to Jared and found the perfect set up, a ring with the band with it and the center stone was not their so we chose the center stone and its placement. We compromised on his like of princess cut and my like of round/brillant cut and came up with the pefect ring for us.

I told him that I liked Emerald cut. That was all. The ring is amazing and totally me, I was very surprised. I knew he would do good, but this good, I did not have a clue. He even had it designed because he did not think any of the rings he would find "were me".

We went together and picked out a ring, actually I was first looking at a Princess cut but his aunt got engaged and was given one that almost looked like the one we orginally picked out, so it was back to the drawing board, I have to be unique... We eventually found one that is perfect, only down fall is that no wedding band in the stores will match is so we have to do a custom wedding band.

Hey I have an emerald cut as well. Did you ever post a pic of your ring?

I guess I had made comments that I like either princess or round, and he just knows that I would like the more simple, but classy style. I am a pretty casual girl (as I sit here in my Old Navy warm-up pants and a tshirt!), so something too fancy would just look silly on me.

I thought he'd have a harder time picking it out though, since he can be rather indecisive and doesn't buy me things like clothes very often, since he said it's hard to know what I will like (clearly, I am high maintenance ... NOT!). Anyway - he said that when he saw this ring, he knew I'd love it ... and I do! It's a princess cut center stone, with 2 smaller princess cuts on the side - and a simple platinum band - not too thin. He went with this sister to pick it out, since she knew the jeweler, but he did it on his own!

No, I never posted a pic, I am newer to this site and never saw that thread. I also don't have one. I will try to take one at home this weekend, its hard though, pics of rings never look good. I will see what I can do though and I will post it.

I just looked at the post of your ring, I love it. Ours are not that different, I also have round diamonds on the sides, I have 3 on each side and the emerald in the middle, but mine are set in the band, and its a think wide band. I am not making it sound nice, I will try to take a pic for you.

I have been looking on line, but I can't find anything like it. He designed it himself, but he had help by looking at other ones, so there has to be something like it online. lol I will keep looking, if not, I will take a pic.

That is part of what I loved about Emerald Cut, the fact that not many people have it. I like things to be different. And, its beautiful of course.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
