Do I need a wedding band?

Recommended Posts

Do I need a wedding band? Is it common for brides to just use their engagement rings? My fiance gave me the exact ring that I wanted- an emerald cut diamond w/ smaller emerald cut diamonds on each side. Being that I'm not much of a jewelery person (I don't even have my ears pierced!), I don't want a wedding band. To be quite honest, I would rather spend the $$ for a wedding band on something else. We currently put bid on a house (l hope we get it!), so I would rather spend the wedding band $$ on furniture!

My fiance would really like me to get one, so I checked out a few jewelers in case I changed my mind when trying them on. To my surprise, I can't even get a standard wedding band because it would need to be curved. I guess my diamond sticks out too far to have a standard band because there will be too much of a gap between the two bands. And the other problem is that normally curved bands only come with round or princess cut diamonds. The only diamonds that would match with my ring are emeralds or baguettes and those can't be curved! I had some stores tell me they can custom make one and try to curve it with baguettes as much as possible, but that is when they began to rise in price.

Would it be the worst thing in the world for me to just stay with my engagement ring? I love it just the way it is and I think my fiance should be happy I would rather spend $$ on our new house than a ring.

I don't want a wedding band. I wanted my ering to have the thinest band possible because I don't usually wear rings. It took me months to get used to it. I don't want to add a 2nd band & thicken the size. My FI doesn't care either way.

BTW, check out photobucket for posting pictures. You just upload & insert the IMG code.

Yeah, I did it! Thanks, I wasn't too sure how to post my pics any other way because the file was always too large!

My band is also really thick, so I ordered a sterling silver band that is super skinny and it only cost $1.10!! My ring is white gold but when i put them on together you can't tell. And i figure if I decide to not wear the band then at least i didn't spend a lot of money on it.

Your ring looks very much like my 25th anniversary ring, except my band is thinner. I wear it with my original wedding band. They don't sit together perfectly but maybe you can get a plain band made that is a fit to your engagement ring? Sometimes I just wear the plain band and I wanted that option.

I had a lot of trouble finding a matching band with my emerald cut ring. I managed to find one that looks decent enough but its not perfect. Personally I cant imagine not having a wedding band, but thats just me. You have to do whatever you feel comfortable with, so if you dont want one then just wear the e-ring :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
