Sand Ceremony

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Was reading through your details of the sand ceremony and too was worried about transporting a glass container to Jamaica from England and back again.

As much as I wanted the sand ceremony, I have opted for a unity candle ceremony with 5 taper candles, one for my partner and I and one each for our 3 children. These will be easy to transport and an ideal keepsake afterwards.

Is your wedding outside? Just an FYI it is really breezy in Jamaica. I am worried that the flame will blow out. This may be something that you may want to check into. It was not a problem for me taking our sand ceremony things to Jamaica and bringing it home. I had it on our carry on. It is your decision I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the breeze. Good luck!!

I saw this Sandframe idea somewhere (maybe here, not sure?) and it looked kinda neat so I bookmarked it. Different twist on the sand ceremony. Then you have a permanent keepsake & might be a tad easier to transport back home vs the glass containers. I think the cost is around $50.00. I don't know anyone who has ordered one, but it looked interesting to me. Here's the link if interested:

They didn't ask anything else. My husband has an 11 year old. This was a excellent way to involve him into our ceremony. Here are some pics of our wedding. There are sand cereomny pics in one of them. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!! I am very proud of my new family and love to show them off. Michael, the resort photographer did a great job! I got my veil at Davids Bridal. It was $65 it think. I wasn't sure about wearing one because it would blow in the breeze. I am so glad I decided to. It did blow a little but I thought it was a neat touch.

Awesome photos! Love the color of your bouquet and sand. I am thinking of going with the sand frame. It looks real easy to transport. I sent them an email and they replied very quickly. I asked if the photo had to be in the frame before adding sand and they said no.

I bough a wine carrafe (sp?) at a local thrift shop and it has a stopper. I am just going to package it and carry it on. If it breaks, I will buy one in Jamaica. I think if you use something that isn't glass, it loses too much clarity. But its a great touch to bring the family together. We are actually including our mothers in ours.

On the way down i had it wrapped in paper in my carry on and they checked my bags. On the way home it was wraped in paper and a plastic bag. I had it in my big purse that I brought. In Jamaica it went thru the xray and the lady stopped me and said they were going to look thru my bag. She asked my what that was and I told her we just got married and did a sand ceremony. She then told the xray lady that is was just sand and they didn't even open it. When we arrived in the states no questions were asked about it at all. i don't think it is a big deal as long as it doesn't have any liquid.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
