Sand Ceremony

Recommended Posts

I agree with crawford. I put the glass in my luggage wrapped tightly and on the way back from Jamaica I had it in my carryon corked and wrapped tightly. They just asked what it was and I said I got married and they just waved us by. No biggie!

Carly.. I also included mothers. They poured the sand first and we had the judge say something about mothers and such...

I wanted to do colored sand, but thought it might just be silly because it would be really difficult to get it home in it's original design from the ceremony...I'm considering just taking sand from the beach we are married on now...as for containers, bubble wrap and/or original packaging (depending on which containers I go with...)

My kids did sand art at a fair and if you fill the container up completely and it gets compacted with a little tapping on the table and a cork to seal it, it should retain its design. I was going to do a smaller container for this reason. And even if it got blended . . . each grain perfectly blended into on whole fam.

We did the sand ceremony with three differnt colors. Right after the ceremony i packed the rest of the bottle (about half of it) with beach sand and put a cork in the top. I kept it in my carry on purse wrapped in papre and a plastic bag. It was big! I made sure it stayed upright as much as i could. When we got home some of the sand had settled but none of the colored sand moved a bit. I love that I can have it on our mantle and it looks the exact same as all of the pictures with the exception of the beach sand. It is your day you can make anything happen!!!

I did the same. We got back to the room me and DH finished filled it together until it was full. Then we packed it with a cork and wrapped a plastic bag around the top with a rubber band. I kept it upright in our carry on. It barely settled after that and now it looks the same.

HI Denise,

I am also having a vow renewal this summer. I am new to this website and already in the freaking out stage. We will be married 20 years this July and this will be our first ceremony. I, too, want the sand ceremony so our kids can participate. I think it is a great idea. How old are your kids? Have you found any nice sayings for your sand ceremony? Also, how are you altering your wedding ceremony? I have a trillion questions..... I have just been contacted (the first time) by my WC and I feel I have so much left to do. Any ideas thrown my way would be awesome.

Thanks so much.....

Nicole

Sandframes.com is the website to purchase the frames with your picture and sand in it with a stopper. It's another neat idea. $69.99 for the wood frame and 2 cylinders of colored sand. Either way I love the sand ceremony idea.

At what point in the wedding ceremony do you do this?

Hi Nicole,
If you look at my vow renewal review in the Cabo forum, you can see a pic of our frame that we used in the background. I kept our frame upright in my carryon. The design is still the same, but sand leaked out of the bottom right hand corner. I don't know why. The only think that I can think of is that I took the front glass out prior to leaving because I was waiting to get a pic. Maybe I should have kept it in place?? My kids are 19 and 21. I used pieces from a couple different sand ceremonies and I think it worked out great. I altered the ceremony by finding a vow renewal ceremony and then personalized it to meet my feelings. After you look at my pics if you have any more question just feel free to ask away.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
