If you pay the $500 for the terrace at the Mexican Restaurant you have the Terrace for the whole night - 6:30-11:00. Dinner, dancing, etc. This includes food, wine, beer and champagne.

If you choose a semi-private reception it is free, but only for the hour and 45 minutes. depending on the size of your party they will seat other hotel patrons near you.

But from what I hear you basically plan everything when you get there which is why they aren't super responsive. If you want something in particular they want to know a week or two in advance but other than that you can do most things when you get there-at least that is what I've been told. When I went to the beach is was very rocky but that was three years ago, things could be different now.
I had to share my experience with you - SoulMoxie: Best Laid Plans...

it makes me laugh now, but not then!

So since the terrace apparently holds about 80, or so I've been told, would it be safe to say that if my party is 75 then we'd have a "private" reception at no charge? Anyone experienced this? I'm really getting nervous about this WC since I've heard nothing positive about her!

I don't think it's safe to say anything without booking. Without booking the Terrace, your party could end up inside the restaurant. and it will only be for the hour and 45 minutes.

My rehearsal dinner was booked at the "San Jose" mexican restaurant. When our party arrived, the staff sat us inside. I requested that we sit on the Terrace and they said no because they wanted to save that for hotel patrons. There was tons of room out there and only 45 in my party...

I would contact Daniella immediately and find out if you can be guaranteed the Terrace (for free). If she says yes - SAVE THE E-MAIL!!

  • 4 weeks later...

Thank you for the wonderful insight-I'm also getting a bit frustrated!

We went to Los Cabos a month ago to check out the RIU Palace and we decided that's where we want to have the wedding-we meet with Daniela and she gave us some input-

But what I was wondering why do you have to pay for the Caprice package, 500.00 for the private reception (Baja), and then meals charged by per person-

Can someone please explain to me, why am I paying for the Caprice package and plus meals per person-I am so confused-plus we are getting married in the Catholic church down there so we won't even be having a cermony there-

Thank you

Good questions! I have a few different responses - let's see if I can make this clear as mud!

Receptions:
All of the packages; caprice, royal, and basic include a 1 hour and 45 minute dinner at either the Steakhouse or the Mexican restaurant. This includes your meals, alcohol (beer, champagne, and wine), table and chair covers and that is it. Nothing extra (as far as the reception)

NOW, if you want something for the whole evening you have 2 options.

1. You can rent out the Mexican terrace ($500) from 6:30 - 11:00. this still includes your food, alcohol (beer, wine, and champagne) and table and chair coverings. You are paying the $500 to have that space for the 4 1/2 hours. I believe you can also rent out the whole restaurant for $1800.

Or

2. You can choose a private area (Baja Norte, English garden, a Ballroom, etc) for $500 plus the cost of food (because it's not in a restaurant).

For instance; I had the Royal package (only 40 people), had my reception in a private area - Baja Norte - $500, and then had to pay a per person price for food. The per person price can be negotiated a little bit if the Mexican Terrace is already booked.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
