Divorce Papers Translated into Spanish?

Recommended Posts

Our wc says there needs to be a letter from the sec of state translated into spanish. Does anyone know how you do this? The divorce was in California and we live in Georgia now and the wedding is in 1 month!

Well I have no idea why you are required to have the papers translated. But with that in mind you should be able to find a translation office in your area that can translate and certify the divorce papers. I had to do that, because I had a hard time changing my last name because our wedding papers were in spanish.

Maybe ask your WC if that would be ok.

For the Canadian brides...

I had to find a certified translator (make sure they are certified!) to translate our birth certificates into Spanish (I'm sure it would be the same process for the divorce papers). She had to write and sign an affidavit that she was the one who did the work. She charged $35/birth certificate.

Then I had to take her to see our lawyer, where she raised her hand in oath that she did the translation.

Then the lawyer notarized the docs--certified copies of the birth certificates and the translations (four docs in total). He charged $20 for all of the docs.

Then I had to take the docs to the Mexican Consulate in a nearby city for legalization. They charged $35/doc.

Hope this helps!

In MX, each state implements their own requirements as far as civil/legal wedding ceremonies are concerned but it is my understanding this is not required by the local Civil Registry (Registro Civil)...This is actually the first time I've heard of this beign required here in Cabo.

The Judge only requires the first and last page of your divorce decree, which should provide the following info; your names, the name of the Judge, his/her signature, and the date the divorce was final.. Are your documents complete and legible?

I can check with the Judge directly for all of you and let you know but it won't be until Monday as their offices are closed for Easter Week.

I just heard back from my wc and she said not to worry about getting it translated - I am not sure why it says that on the list of required docs if it is not really required but at least I have one less thing to worry about. I got all worked up for nothing. Thanks for your help girls!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
