Hey all

I am new to this site and being engaged! My question, where do I begin? I have contacted a few resorts and a travel agent (that my FI sister used for her DW), but asked very general questions. Of course I got generalized answers.

So...what do I choose first: the time of year I would like to get married, the resort, or the area in Mexico we want to go to? All of those are undecided currently.

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum Elizabeth! When I chose our destination, a couple things went into it. I love the name of the place (Zihuatanejo means "land of women" and I am definitely a girls' girl. Then it came to the date. Because we are getting maried on a popular holiday it limited my choices. Some of the hotels in Zihua would not allow weddings larger than 10 people dring their high season, so this might be something you ask the resot you are interested in.

Good luck an congratulations!!!

We are thinking of the Riviera Maya area in late oct/early nov 2009. Idk that seems so far away. If I was planning a wedding at home, that would be fine, but I am afraid we will be just sitting around waiting. I dont know of a better time, based on affordability, guest saving money, holidays and hurricane season.

Oh and we want it to be affordable for our guest, because so many have children they are bringing.

Thanks for the help

Congrats and welcome to the forum! We didnt have a particular date in mind but we knew it would be sometime in June. After that was decided, we looked into picking a resort. Since I have kinds coming to the wedding, adults-only was not an option. Then we looked at the decor of a resort and price and we found Riu Palace to be exactly what we had in mind. Another thing that we liked about Riu was the fact that Riu has less expensive sister resorts and our guests could pick depending on their budget.

Hello Elizabeth. Welcome to the forum. The hardest part for me was picking the date and location. One good thing though is it seems like you have narrowed it down to Mexico!! wink.gif That is a start. When we picked we took into consideration hurricane season, low vs high season and what general time of the year we wanted to be married. May seemed to fit all of our criteria. As for east or west coast Mexico, it was easier for our guests to fly to Cancun then say Puerto Vallarta so we ended in on the east coast. We also really liked a lot of the adults-only but we are having many kids as well so we went with Fiesta Americana Condesa and couldn't be happier. It is just what we wanted. Good luck. It will all come together in no time.

I think October/November is the best time for a wedding. I've lived here three years shooting wedding videos. At this time the weather is great and the ocean is warm and you get great service because half the town is off for the summer and eager to work.

I have over 70 wedding videos categorized by venue and vendor on my Vimeo site. It should be a great way to visualize your options.

Congrats! I would think of looking at date or time of year first. This was the hardest choice for us... and the most important aspect for many of our guests. Then just start looking at locaitons and maybe talk w/ a TA to find a place and resort that works best for you! Happy Plannin :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
