Anyone having guests stay in one hotel and having ceremony/reception in another?

Recommended Posts

I'm struggling with the thought of asking my guests to pay $200-$300/night for 3-4 nights for my wedding. However, the 3 venues that I would LOVE to have my ceremony/reception at charge those type of rates. Is/has anyone hosting their ceremony/reception at a different resort other than the one their guests are staying at?

Any thoughts on this? Too confusing, too much extra planning, etc. Is there some financial perk to staying and hosting at the same venue?

i'm going to go out on a limb here...i think if you can, it is best to have your guests stay in one spot. i think it really dilutes the experience of a DW if they are all staying in different areas. one of the main reason we had a destination wedding was so our friends and family could spend time with us and each other. it was such a great way for us all to get to know each other better. my parents and his parents are so fond of each other now.

we loved having our meals together, lounging by the pool together, the ladies doing a spa day together, the younger group went out together.

then throw in the fact that you are trying to get a large group of people together and have them navigate around a town that they are unfamiliar with and do not know the language, i think you are causing a stressful situation. in an ideal situation, you would have all those details taken care of for them so they really just need to show up. Keep in mind transportation can get expensive....the $40 a day they spent on cabs could have gone to a better resort.

i think for anac, your family speaks spanish so it doesnt really apply. sherri and tammym your groups are so small it is different as well...

i really think if you are thinking a group of 20 or more it is just better...or at least have them only stay at 1 or 2 resorts that are fairly near each other.

my 2 cents.

We got married at Cabo Surf but only had about 1/3 of our guests stay there. The others stayed in much cheaper condos nearby and saved a ton of money. Just make sure to plan lots of group events so you get to see everyone. We had a group activity, dinner, surfing lessons, wedding, and brunch...so it wasn't a problem.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
