Ok...Cabo Wedding...Great Idea...How the heck do I get my dress there?

Hey all,

Being unfamiliar with all things 'wedding', I'm asking for advice on how to get my dress down to Cabo for the wedding, preferably, from past brides who've actually done it already. Do I take it down on the plane with me, wrinkling it horribly or do I ship it down risking it not arriving on time or at all? I'm thinking I will take it down and bring one of those handheld steamers to steam out the wrinkles. However, I just found out today from a recent groom that the dress doesn't show up from the store ready-to-wear so it has to be pressed anyway. Should I not have it pressed in the US and take it down, not worrying about the wrinkles since it's not pressed anyway, and take it to a place in Cabo to be pressed?

Is there a magic wedding dress transportation machine that will solve this problem? If not, advice is seriously appreciated.

Cheers,

Kelly

I think that most brides take the dress with them on the plane. You call your airline and you let them know that you will be travelling with your wedding dress. They will most likely allow you to hang it in their on flight closet. It shouldn't get terribly wrinkled. Also, most hotels have a steaming service, but I will be bringing my own handheld steamer so that I can be sure that they don't mess up my dress in any way.

But definitely take it with you on the plane, you want it in your sight and by your side at all times!!

Make sure you have it cleaned and pressed before you leave. They should also package the bodice on a small form to keep the breast area filled out. It's hot carrying your dress through the airport but do it.. like the others said, I didn't let it out of my site until I put in the closet on the plane. (make sure you're one of the last to add your stuff so it doesn't get a suitcase put on it.)

Then when you get to your resort hang it. Our resort offered pressing but being paranoid I decided to just let it hang and any wrinkles that were created during transit were gone before the wedding. You could always hang in the bathroom with the shower running on hot, but don't do this if you have a silk dress.. water stains on silk are horrible.

most important -- do not let your dress out of your sight, and do NOT ship it.

ok first a few questions:

1) do you have a hotel yet? the WC at the hotel should be able to tell you if they can press your dress on premises.

2) have you booked your airline, or at least chosen which airline you'll fly? oftentimes if you call your airline after booking to tell them you're flying for a DW and will be carrying your dress, depending on the airline, they will either let you hang it in the 1st class/captain's closet, or give you your own overhead bin for it. angela is right though, my dress shop is doing what she recommended -- filling the top section with a form to keep the breast shape.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
