Getting married in PV - where to honeymoon?

We can't decide. We'll be in PV for a week for our wedding but want to spend the following week on our honeymoon. Originally we wanted to go to Belize or Costa Rica but they were more expensive and took longer to get to. For those of you that got married in PV or Mexico, where did you/will you go on your honeymoon? I was looking at Dreams in Cabo.....

We married in PV and honeymooned in Ocho Rios, JA. For us the travel was worth it to get out of Mexico and separate the wedding from the honeymoon. I don't know much about Dreams Cabo but there is a lot of info here about it.

If you don't want to go too far you can always head up or down the coast. Costa Alegre and Manzanillo are south of PV and gorgeous places with great resorts. I think Manzanillo is about 4 hours by land (you could also fly).

Even closer to PV are the resorts of Majahuitas and Verana which look spectacular and are very secluded so you'll feel far away:

Majahuitas Beach Resort :: Puerto Vallarta :: Mexico

Verana - Small Luxury Spa & Getaway in Yelapa, Mexico

We are heading to the Grand Velas Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta for 5 days. We considered flying out to the RM, however, we are meeting up with my family in Guadalajara so we wanted to save money on flights and decided to stay in the Vallarta area. However, the GVV looks amazing, and I am so excited!

We are planning on going to Bora Bora for our honeymoon. Since we are from NYC, it would cut 6 hours off the flight to leave straight from PV. We are saving the frequent flyer points and starwood points:) Check out le meridien, which is a starwood.com hotel.

There are some great ways to collect travel points. We are hoping to not have to pay for our flights or our stay, just go off our points....

THanks for all the advice. I think we've decided to stay in the vicinity of PV. The week of the wedding will be so busy I doubt we'll really have time to enjoy everything. We'll just move resorts and maybe explore some of the nearby areas.

My parents just got back from Dreams and absolutely RAVED about it...they upgraded to the Jacuzzi suite while they were there. They said the food was absolutely amazing, literally like a 5 star restaurant. Here in Calgary, meals like that would cost you 200.00 easy, they were so impressed, the presentation, the taste, the service, the wine, they even got flaming coffees at their table. Every night they left a 20.00 tip just because they were so impressed.
We are getting married in Jamaica, I wish my 5 star hotel of choice had food choices like this!! lol. But by the sounds of things it's a great choice.

This is a great thread, because we have been wondering where to go from PV too. We want to go somewhere, but it didnt seem like it was easy to get anywhere from PV, at least not cheaply.

If we go up or down the coast, is driving the best way? Has anyone just rented a car and taken a drive?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
