    is your song too fast?
dh is NOT a dancer, and we were going to take lessons but he was so uptight about it that i decided not to push it. we actually changed our song from a quicker, more upbeat song to a much more mellow, sway-back-and-forth-to-look-like-dancing song. he wasn't stressed about the dance, and was able to relax, drink a bit and dance like a fool for the rest of the night.

That's what I call the 8th grade rock. Arms around each other & rock back & forth.

I love to 2-step being from texas. Mike doesn't. I really miss it, but it's just not his thing. I 2-stepped for the first time in years at a wedding with the grooms man I was paired up with. I had totally forgotten how because it had been so long, but it was so much fun once I got the hang of it agian.

Mike & I found a compromise. He started taking swing lessons with me last year. Swing is more his style. I only wanted to do it if he was interested & would have fun with it. We had a blast learning. We just need to get out there & do it more often. Luckily some other friends are taking lessons so we'll have people to go dancing with.

What about "tricking" him into practicing by taking him out somewhere to dance? Try hitting up a club... maybe doing "regular club dancing" will get him in the mood to try something slower... like your first dance song :)

Ok so what the heck thank the Lord! I thought I was the only one on this Boat… My FI doesn’t like to dance either and is pissing me off… I have been dancing since I can walk I choreograph and dancing is just part of my life…

But I am willing to compromise with him… we can dance slow as long as is elegant… I also don’t want to choreograph my first dance sort off… I want to have a couple of things that I want happened but I would rather them happened at the spur of the moment rather than oops I mist that last step…

But trust me we will dance and dance and dance and this just tells me I need to start with him from now…

I think when you guys practice at home you should set the mood… don’t make him feel like a student and also don’t make him feel like is a dance class because if they hate to dance they will hate the class… dancing should always be fun…

Dean HATES dancing. He used to go dancing with me when we first met, but that was when he was trying to impress me. And when I look back on it, he was sort of standing there and let me dance around him like a fool.

Of all the weddings I have been to, the most genuine and romantic dances were the ones where the couple was just doing the 8th grade two-step. It was simple, they were looking into each other's eyes and holding each other really close. Choreogrpahed dances look weird to me. I would say unless you both love to dance don't do something you are uncomforatble doing.

The other thing that helps is if the song really means something to you. For anyone out there that is a fan of the movie "A Bronx Tale", Dean and I are dancing to "I Only Have Eyes For You." I love it becuase Dean loves that movie and his test for me was the "if she unlocks the car door for you" she's a keeper (classic!). And then the whole parallel of the italian boy and the little black girl in love is too cute to pass up. And I love the words in the song....it's old school and I have not heard it at a wedding before.

Make it something cheesy that he can at least get into the spirit of. As long as he looks like he is having fun, your guest will love it. Even if he has to do something dorky to feel comfy. Besides, can you choreograph something in where you can make fun of yourselves and the fact that you can dance and he can't?

I suggest you take dance lessons also. I am a ballroom dance instructor, and we teach a ton of wedding couples specifically for the first dance. It helps when the guy has a bit more confidence. Also, it is fun for you to have that date night together prior!

if you find a good studio, you will actually learn a dance that goes with the beat of your song. Learn how to lead and follow. It is not necessarily choreographed. You will have a few different steps you can go through but he can put them in whatever order he decides. Usually they can teach you a simple dip for the end for a nice photo op also.

Definitly worth it! And FI usually goes very tenatively but once they realize that it is easy and fun, they will go back willingly. Take advantage of it, most women need an excuse to get the men in, this is your time as a bride!
