Legally married...Before or after?

Recommended Posts

I found this an interesting one to read cause my fiance and myself have had the same debates about whether or not to marry at home or in mexico and if so when...Well our final decision....we are actually getting married at the Chapel at the airport just prior to boarding our flight down to PV. We used to joke about those chapels and say that if we ever did get married that would definitely be the place and sure enough its happening...the airport will apparently just put out an announcement just prior to the wedding announcing it and so any one who shows will be our witnesses! (See none or our family or friends that are coming to PV with us live in our city!) But we are both looking forward to it and figure it should be a good way to start the trip!

This might be a silly question, but why are you all not getting legally married on your DW? I never even thought about doing it here before or anything like that, I thought doing it once and making it legal just seemed better. So, I am confused now, why are you not doing it legally where you are going? Help smile29.gif

For my fiance and myself it was simply a matter of timing! For us to get married in PV we had to send down our documents 3 months in advance to get translated and approved by the mexican consulate...the date we booked our vacation and wedding down there, there was a bride at our travel agents whose documents had been lost somewhere in the process and she didn't have enough time left to get them re-sent down again. When we were sitting there watching that happened we decided against the legal wedding there just incase something like that happened to us! It might seem a little stupid but we just didn't want to chance it after seeing how upset that bride was!

Huh, I never thought about that. I have 3 friends who got married away, all legal ceremonies, and they never had any problems at all, so I just never thought about it. It does give me something to think about though. I do want to be legally married after the ceremony. Then again, its really easy to just run to city hall and get married if it does not work out for us, so I will worry about that if it should happen.

Thanks guys.

Mexico I think is one of the more complicated places to marry, you have to have everything translated to spanish and be there four days ahead of time and have blood tests done there, and of course there is a fee for everything. And when you get home everything has to be translated back to english, big PITA. I know some of the islands have much easier requirements. That's why we decided to do it before we go

We are getting married about 2 weeks before we go to Mexico. It saves time and around $500 to do it in the states. There seems to be so much extra stuff you have to go through to get married down there, so we wanted a "worry-free" trip down there and just enjoy our family and ceremony.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
