ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies!

I'm here in Playa Del Carmen and everything is AWESOME!!!  Bonnie, I beat you by a few days, our wedding is this Friday, July 1st at The Royal!  Most of us are staying at The Gran Porto though, due to many guests with kids and we all wanted to be together.  Our ceremony is at the little Chapel at 4PM at the end of 5th Avenue and then cocktail hour and party starts at 6PM on the beach.

Its been so amazing, everytime I turn around I bump into a family member or friend I haven't seen in a while.  The weather that greeted us was kind of crappy, but it was nice to see everyone having a great time regardless (kids still swim in the rain, others were just having drinks at the bar, everyone smiling and happy).  The resort really goes out of their way to make you feel taken care of etc.  Everyone is SO NICE!!!  Now the sun is starting to come out so I am PSYCHED.

American Airlines was great about hanging my dress on the plane.  Getting through customs was a little nerve-wrecking but super easy.  When they opened up our bags, Ryan made sure to tell them the total value of the contents was $200.  (Yeah, right!)  They cap it at $300 before they start making you pay fees (a bridal "trousseu" doesn't count, which I'm guessing means your dress and jewelry?), so we thought we would low-bar it and hope they didn't ask too many questions, which they didn't.  I might recommend splitting up the contents though amongst other friends and family traveling with you so it doesn't look suspicious.  They limit the amount of CD's you can bring in to the country to 30, and we made 40 for our OOT bags.  Luckily they didn't spot them, but I would have felt better is we just had half that amount and someone else took the other half. We also made signs we put inside each bag that read "Regalos no comercios, regalos son para mi boda" (non commercial goods, for my wedding) and then the name and contact information for our on-sight wedding coordinator, with our names and the date/time of the wedding.  We didn't need it, but it made us feel better to have it.

We meet with our coordinator today.  Hope it all goes well!

SOOOOOOOO  happy and excited.

Jenn

Jennifer and Bonnie!!

Congrats ladies!!

Just know that issues will happen and to just take it in with a deep breath and let it go as you exhale. In the end it will work out.

Make sure you go over everything with your WC and don't be surprised if the resort changes your menu choices slightly. I'm telling you that seemed to be a running joke at our group dinners. Everyone would ask me, did you order this? Bc every dinner something was different.

Even on the wedding day the soup we chose was not the same soup - but it tasted great.

DO NOT GET THE MOUSSE!!! It is not tasty at all.

Lamb chops were amazing. Beef was good but not exceptional. Fish was okay and chicken was dry.

I can't wait to see your pics!!!

As JoZee said - ignore the people in blue!! They are timeshare peeps!!! Tell your guests do not meet them for breakfast or make any apts with them.

Luckily for you guys - you get the romance concierge and they are awesome! Veronique is super nice and get this, both the ladies are from The Netherlands but have lived there for about 6yrs now. I love how international their staff is.

Hello fello BDW Brides... just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! to all the recent Brides and to all those who's big day is approaching soon:) I have less than 5 months to go and I feel like I'm running out of time... so much still to do!! Lol

I have a questions about photography... I was interested in Del Sol after viewing their work - it's amazing... but It's a little pricey. They emailed me that they have a sister company named La Luna and their pricing seems fair... problem is I don't know what is good pricing or not, so I was wondering if any of you have booked La Luna and if so were you happy with the end result... and price!

Really appreciate your feedback:)

JHarris,

You didn't told us about the changing/modified menu....but if the lamb was good, then I am ok ;-)  Yeah, the timeshare people are very insisting, and their deals aren't that great once you worked out the maths.  so better avoid them and spend our time on the beach.

Debbie,

There are a few review on La Luna on this forum, so far..every bride who used them waved about them.

Hi Ladies!  I am up and wide awake after too much consumption for my bachelorette in Playa Del Carmen (In Spanish: "la ultima noche de soltera") last night.  All the gals went out bar/club hopping through a pre-paid group called PlayaCrawl.  I think their website is playacrawl.com.  SOOOOOOO much fun.  It was a fixed rate of about $60 each, but the bride (me!) was free of course.  We got in free everywhere no problem and had drinks included and waiting for us when we arrived.  This was a GREAT option and the people did a wonderful job keeping everyone moving, dancing, together and having an amazing time (they are basically professional cat-herders...there were 15 of us!).  I highly recommend, pass this info on to your Maid of Honor!

    • STAY AWAY FROM CARIBBEAN EMOTIONS PHOTOGRAPHY!!!! Michael Weiler is a SCAMMER he took our money and disappeared!! we hired him as our photographer for our wedding back in November, he gave us a run around for the first week or 2 saying our pictures are almost ready and then disappeared. we have been sending him emails, texts and phone calls for the past 4 months and he is now where to be found. I made a fake account to email him and he answered right away as he is only interested in taking peoples money and not give anything in return.
    • For weddings you should definitely use a travel agent as there are promotions and amenities with a group block that you will not get by booking individually like comped rooms, upgrades, spa treatments, etc.
    • Congratulations and welcome to the forum! There are lots of great resort options in Punta Cana and we have stayed at or toured many of them.  Are you looking for a family friendly resort or adults only?  What you interested in with nature and the ceremony? All of the resorts will have different wedding locations and there are also a variety of off resort wedding venues in Punta Cana. Please feel free to email us at info@wrighttravelagency.com if you'd like us to send resort info and check group rates. Thanks! Patty
    • Hello Everyone!  I am currently in the initial stages of planning and I am starting to look at resorts in Dominican Republic. I am thinking of having my wedding in October 2020.  I have been looking at resorts in Punta Cana, but I also want to look at other options/areas as well. The groom and I enjoy nature and we would like to incorporate that into our wedding in some way. We may also have a guest list between 50-80 people. Since we live in the US, I wanted to find a location that is accessible from major airports and is cost efficient for our guest as well as us. Can anyone share what locations they have searched or been to other than Punta Cana? Also I am okay to receive feedback on some Punta Cana locations.
    • Thank you! I did not make these. I purchased them from a business. They are still for sale if you are interested!
