ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hello all my fellow PDC ladies!! I missed out on a lot! The man and I are nursing ourselves back to health from the flu.

Lisa- What a beautiful and fantastically planned AHR!!! You both looked amazing and I love your reception dress. Gorgeous!!! That blue suits you!!

Kshows- How is planning coming along? Did you work out all the planning kinks? Thanks for posting that great email about The Royal in comparison with other resorts.

I am in the not fun task of finally getting our invitations done. Who knew finding the right wording would take so long!!

Thanks Lisa! There's lots of flip flops to choose from! I remember your shoes, they were very cute!

Yes, I'm afraid I'll either get stuck and fall, or step on my dress because if i hemmed it to shoes or step on something painful   sad.gif   (lol, yea, i worry a lot)

wholy moly - FIVE DAYS?? wow.

PS: looked like your AHR was so much fun! and once again, you looked so happy and beautiful!  wink.gif

i think i'll start looking for nice wedge-platform flip flops, haven't found my shoes yet, but i know they won't be a wedge heel....lol, i was thinking it'll look so funny if i kicked them off before i went into the sand part.

LOL I had platform flips because i was nervous to walk in anything else (you couldn't even see them lol) I got mine here:

http://www.bridalshoes.com/wedding-flip-flops

I liked them because they have white or ivory

Then I got high heels by Pour La Victoire from Zappos to put on for pics and when he took off my garter. BTW, i loooove Pour La Victoire because most of their bridal shoes have blue heels for your something blue and already have " I DO" under the arch in rhinestones :-)

It's like there is an invisible list of "things that will eventually come up when planning your DW" .... and i thought i wouldn't have to deal with this because those that booked have been getting so excited to go.

these 3 guys (yup, guys) already put their deposits down, with 2nd deposit due mid-feb, they'd better decide asap.  i have a bunch of gals paid in full, booked flights and all with less worries than they do. It's not about the money because i know they have it. without these 2 rooms, we won't have enough for the group rate, or we'll have to split a couple of the double rooms into singles to cover or find replacements! a BM's BF already can't make it

this all started when they asked a friend who's in the army to join them for the week because they needed an extra person to make a room double occupancy instead of single, he spoke about leave with his lieutenant and was advised against going - "allowed to, but highly advised to not go due to the sheer amount of violence going on in that country". (WTF, i'm pretty darn sure none of you ladies who were just there got married in a freaken war-zone).

Hearing all that and the media hype about recent violent activities makes them "uneasy", plus they aren't very experienced travelers.

Vancouver was portrayed as a "city full of gang violence" with shootings and stabbings at clubs. didn't stop them from going out to the bars and clubs at night.

ergh.

I lost a bridesmaid FIVE DAYS before because of this. I would reassure them that this is very true for BORDER towns, but not so for riviera maya areas.

I am a wedding rookie so I am not sure what proper etiquette is.  I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to upgrade to a larger cake for such a small party that I will be having. My motivation is mainly for pictures.  Any suggestions?

Thank you ma'am. The cake was delicious from what I got (they finished it all before i could get my "real piece" lol) It was Tres Leches. We cut our slice to feed each other and then yes, they cut the rest into slices for the guests. I had 30 people and I believe it would have been enough with the standard cake, but people were getting thirds lol (that should be an indication of how good it was).

LOL you're right  =)
i hope the overreacting doesn't spread to the others.

Wedding decor,

In addition to going out with a blackberry ?!?! +$700 cash. Did u see the pic of that Canadian victim?!  Not only the rape kit came out negative...but ..Seriously, I don't think cops based in Cancun/PDC have low self-esteem!  They could've pickup sexy cougars, drunk students...instead of..getting this madame from Thunder Bay.

Down here there is a doubt about this story for all the things around not making sense.

RosiePosie- How many rooms do you need to get a group rate?  Do they discount everyones room?  or just yours? Did they all have to book with the same TA?

I'm sorry to hear about the guys backing out.  I don't understand why people freak out when the date gets closer! I think people are just using that as an excuse because its hard to fight with.  We are also having issues with people booking my MIL and my SIL are driving me nuts!   Too long of a story to get into.

Lisa!!! Thank you for sharing these. They are absolutely gorgeous! It looks like you all had an absolute blast! :) Everyone looks like they had a wonderful time and I love how so many of your guests are in blue as well. Very very cool. Congratulations to you both. And, you look beautiful!

These pictures make me so excited and they are a perfect insight for the little details we are planning now (just to pass the time)! Kelly

The reason I ask this is..last year, when Air Canada Vacation told me that the RoyalPDC was full, and I had to stay at the Gran Porto...but then when I check in at the Gran Porto, they offered me $50 per night per room to upgrade to the Royal...which was CHEAPER than the AC package..even if it was available.

I'm not sure about the price, but my brother had the presidential suite, and although he said it was very nice and all, they ended up switching to master because the view made the difference. He also said it was " a lot of room " for two people lol. Maybe you would like it though :-)

Does anyone know anything about golfing in Playa del Carmen? I'm not a golfer but my fiance is, and although I love him dearly, his idea of planning is, well, opposite of mine.

So 'm sending out our "Wedding Weekend Itineraries" so our guests have an idea of what to expect and can plan and pack accordingly. My fiance wants to invite our guests to join him for a round of golf Friday morning. Since we are not able to cover this cost for our guests, I thought it appropriate to at least list approximate pricing for green fees, rentals, transportation, etc. Since he's more of a "I'll wing it" king of guy, he said to just list golfing as an option for Friday morning and to tell people to see him if they are interested. But from what I know of golf, you have to have a reservation, especially if you have a decent size group, which we were thinking about 10 people would be going. Plus, he doesn't even know of any decently priced golf courses or which are nice compared to others (besides what we find when we google it).

So, I thought I'd ask my trusty forum buddies and awesome ROYAL brides if you have any ideas, know from experience, or heard of anything regarding golf in Playa del Carmen.

Thanks for listening to me vent a little and for any info you might have! Kelly

we needed 10 rooms to get a group rate. didn't matter if they're single or double. discount is for everything and we booked through the same TA.

there's still time, and i'm hoping they'll get over themselves.

i hope you're doing well and your MIL and SIL don't drive you TOO crazy    :)

Kelly - I don't really know anything about golf but if you go to www.realresorts.com and click Golf at the top, it will take you to some information and it had the course name on there.  Looks like you get different discounts with different type rooms, and that a reservation is needed 24 hours in advance.

I know this is kind of off the wall, but I went to Cozumel on a work trip (lucky...yes I know) and they scheduled for us to go on a pirate cruise which was an absolute blast so that is one of our options for our guests on Friday night.  We had it set up with Cancun transferrs and with transportation, the 3 hour cruise and a steak and lobster dinner on the boat (you will be suprised at how GOOD it is) is $99 per person.

Also, I don't think anyone is getting married at the same time or weekend as me, but I am a certified spray tan technician and will obviously be bringing my stuff with me if anyone needs a tan! =)

Yes I know!!  We got legally married last Friday, but it still doesn't feel real yet.  Oh how exciting!!!!  I had my BD session back in December and after proofing and putting the book together it is now off to print.  I used a lady here in Houston and it was absolutely amazing.  The pictures came out WAY better than I expected.  It was hard to pick which pictures to use (and I am crazy critical about myself).  If I get permission from her, I will post a few on here.

I am now on the crash diet as well!  I have been working out now regularly for over a year, but for the last month, have only missed one day.  I started at 149 and am down to 132 and super stoked about it! =)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
