I read this post and called the Royal just now because I had also been in contact with Ivan about services (looks like we were neck-and-neck for our day!). Ivan had never said anything about this to me and I was prepared to send him my money today. The person I spoke with at the Royal, a WC, said hat the resort has made a decision to no longer allow Ivan's services because he was doing "bad things" with money between the brides and the resort. ALthough I have heard many wonderful things on here about him, so I find it strange, I find it even more weird that he was willing to take my money/contract if he knew about this. The WC is emailing names of other dj's in the area, which I can give to you as well. I would be careful...

Hola! Kerri, I am really sorry if you misunderstanding something, but that is not true, if they told you that I am doing "bad things" with money, is because they realizing that they are not getting money for my services in their hotels, now if you book my services or any other DJ company they will get this commission, that I am agree they need to get some, but not that ridiculous price $1100 USD per 3 hours of DJ Service. I am still as a preferred vendor with them It is just I have to respect this new policy, and If I send you the quotation was because your request was done long time ago before this new policy applied and this way you can save money.

For all the brides that already booked my services directly with me I want to let you know that you don´t have to worry about it, I will be allowed for all the weddings booked directly before this new policy started.
Please if you have any questions e-mail and will be a pleasure for me respond you.

Have a nice day!

I am sorry if that sounded so critical but, at this point, I am VERY VERY confused. That is what Zulma told me and I'm not sure why she would have said it if it wasn't exactly the policy.

I am trying to get the information straightened out, for myself, because I need to know what the facts are.

Ok Ladies, in addition to what Ivan has said I have received more clarification. I spoke with Angie (US WC thru Real Resorts who btw also said that I should have been assigned a US WC instead of working directly thru Michelle down in MX) who explained everything. She said that there have been some complaints about discrepancies in dj services pricing and the resort has decided, instead of getting rid of Ivan altogether (since so many brides love him), to have him work directly for the resort and therefore brides must book throgh them (hence the price-set of 1100 for 3 hrs). Angie, as of right now, is not sure whether they will cut-off brides from using another other outside dj vendor, and make us go only with them 2 who work for the resort, or whether this change will only affect Ivan. It is apparent that Zulma gave me the wrong information and Angie told me directly that she should not have told me what she did. Angie will be getting back to me in the next few days with updated information; I am truly hoping that the resort does not decide to set prices for all vendors, things could get a little pricey if they do ($1100 for 3 hrs is crazy as it is)...Glad I could get more to the bottom of this but it is still confusing and unfortunate for us brides who are trying to plan these things right in the middle of all this!!

Sorry if I sparked any worry!

Hi Kerri thanks for the update. I think it is absolutely horrible that all this has happened and everyone is so confused. It is even more appalling that The Royal tried to tarnish DJ Ivan's name when clearly they are the ones being shady here. Obviously this resort just wants to make more money and charge absurd prices.

I know several brides who have worked with DJ Ivan and each and every single one of them has nothing but amazing things to say about him. He is also very well know by many other vendors in the Riviera area. When we went for our site visit many of the locals who know him told us what a great DJ and person he is. This was the very reason we decided to book him.

Thanks again for the update and clarifying everything for everyone

Wow, I am shocked at the recent events!

I am glad to know that this will not affect my booking with DJ Ivan. I'm just extremely disappointed that The Real Resorts is doing this! That just puts a bad taste in my mouth...I don't think I can change the venue because my guests already booked at Gran Porto/The Royal...my photographer, too. I don't know what to do. I hope it stops right now...no more changing rates! You better believe that I will bring EVERY email to the resort in case they try to charge me more $$$. Thank god for e-mails. :)

I know!!! I feel the same way. Not to mention they amost ruined DJ Ivans reputation. I just really think that is unacceptable. I don't know what we are doing yet. We have started to look at other options and will soon decide what we think is best for us and all our guests. It def! put a very bad taste i my mouth to.

Keep us posted! i think i might stay put because it's less than 6 months for me. I already took care of everything that I need like DJ and etc. So i am good as long they don't try to charge me $$. i am concerned about guests being able to go to the royal for the wedding and they won't be charged. Kimberly said it is FREE to everyone so i am bring all of emails regarding that if they try to charge any guests that are not staying at the Royal. Bleh, it is not cool to be stressing about this!

Wow, I can't believe the Royal is being this way! I am seriously stunned. So many brides go on and on about how great their experience was, so I'm hoping that this is all a matter of confusion and misinformation. I am personally very excited about DJ Ivan. I booked him a long time ago and I have had nothing but a great experience to date. I really am not worried about him and I don't care if I have to scream at every last person at The Royal...he will be my DJ that day. Sounds like it won't be a problem though.

I am already all paid up to date with the Royal for the whole wedding and all the vendors, so I would hope they don't try to pull any funny business and charge me more. If they do trust me, every single person in that resort will find out about it. I have had great dealings with Angie. She is a bit slow, but I haven't really asked too many questions. I did find out that if you prefer for your bridesmaids to hold only one long stem flower with ribbon it is only $15 each. That is what I decided to do to save some money. I just really hope that the resort doesn't give me the runaround. I'm pretty much waiting until I get my WC from the Royal a few months before. Then I can clarify everything with them.

Kerri,

The price for the Welcome dinner was $25 per person. This was for the buffet option, but I think it is the same for a sit down dinner as well. It was perfect!

Hey ladies!

ARGHHHHH, the Royal screws with our heads and their pricing yet again! If my guests hadn't already put deposits down I might actually consider what JESMCAN is doing and look at changing resorts. But as I'm staying there, as everyone says, keep I will everything in writing and bring it down with me. It's just frustrating that we have to do this at all, the luxury package that I put a deposit down for cost $2400 US (at the time) and is now like $3200, things like this concern me as they could try and screw me over making me pay more. Now I'm all worked up! On another note about dresses, I ordered mine way back in June and I'm concerned that I'm not going to love it anymore, so don't pick your dress too early!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
