ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Ok brides! I'm back from our Jamaican honeymoon and back to work so I can start posting again and answering questions. :)

First off, I want to say - the Royal is amazing! We went there, sightunseen, based only on recommendations from my travel agent, and the place is just amazing. Every single guest had the best time and everyone is already talking about a return trip. The service, food, drinks, and property is just top of the line. Do not stress about people loving the property one bit. On the day most of my guests checked in, they had a private room set up for them with all of their check in stuff (most everyone did the online checkin) and everyone except for 2 people had their rooms immediately ready, even before the scheduled "check in" time. We had a swimup suite with a great view of the beach, right near Pelicanos, which was really the best of everything, I cannot suggest that room type enough!

I met with Lili (my onsite WC) our 2nd day there. I brought an entire suitcase full of stuff. I would pull stuff out, and she would make notes about it. We also went through the entire wedding package information to make sure everything she had written down was correct. She also loved that I had little Powerpoint slides with diagrams showing how I wanted the tables set up - so keep that in mind.

The day of the wedding started out gorgeous. Then around 2pm (my wedding was at 4) the clouds began to show up and it looked like it was going to storm. Lili called me and suggested we move everything inside. At that point, I just wanted a decision either way, so I said ok (I had been stressing about the weather all week). My photographer (Juan Navarro) thought we'd be able to at least get away with doing the ceremony outside, and said I should try to convince her otherwise. I tried not stressing about it, but my husband was in the next room calling her and talking to her. Around 3:15, she called and said we could probably do the ceremony outside. Right at that time, there was another bride getting married on the beach and it started torrential downpouring on her! Ugh, I felt awful. The weather was gorgeous for our ceremony and some pictures on the beach, so I cannot complain.

Also, having the reception in the ballroom ended up being perfect. I never would've thought I'd like it, but now I would definitely suggest it to people who are iffy about doing something on the beach. They really made the ballroom into our own little club! The wait staff was amazing, DJ Doremixx's staff was awesome, and they really do cater to your every want and need. One of the waitstaff, Javier, kept bringing these liter bottles with a spout on the end out - they were shots! He'd stand on a chair and shoot shots into everyone's mouth. Everyone loved it! The food was fabulous, as was the Tres Leches cake. YUM!

We did TTD the next morning, and went up the beach a bit past the Gran Porto for it. There is a pier and boats, and it really made for awesome shots. Make sure you eat a hearty breakfast because TTD is tiring! LOL

My only complaint about the entire process was that when Lili suggested we move everything inside, I said "how do I let my guests know?" And she said "I don't know, you have to handle that." I REALLY didn't like that. We had 50 guests! How was I going to contact all of them?! She said "maybe the Romance Concierge will help you..." My feeling was that she should handle having someone contact the guests. We made it work (TWICE, since we then moved the ceremony back outside and had to let everyone know), but that was my only gripe.

Denielle - awesome! I saw your thing on FB, too - the one that interviewed you both and your TA. congratulations!!

I cannot believe that we leave TOMORROW. meanwhile, our mortgage broker is pushing to get the paperwork in today (45 days out), I purchased a refrig/washer/dryer on clearance that can't be delivered to the new house yet (but has to go SOMEWHERE, like today), and the starfish from the forum was lost and is in the process of being overnighted. oh and I have to go pick up a cake cutting set after 9pm tonight and get my nails done (shellac) at 4pm. AND I HAD 1.5 YEARS TO PLAN!!!

it's so crazy, but I'm sure everything will work out. ONE MORE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (seriously, leaving the office, like now ; )

I'm sure the weather will work out, but if it doesn't - don't let it stress you all week like it did to me, and know that they have plans in place in case it doesn't cooperate.

Hi Ladies!

I was wondering, if you booked your room online, were you still eligible for the free room upgrade?  I've been waiting on our group contract (which has been a long, tedious and frustrating process!) to book our room but I'm starting to get nervous that the wedding is only 4 months away and we still haven't even booked a room!  I'm dying to book it, Sept 7th will be here before I know it!

I dont see why you wouldn't be eligible for the upgrade, but I really don't know. Are you using a TA or booking on your own? I've been in contact with Wendy from Wright Travel and she has just been absolutely amazing and so helpful. I'm really happy with the prices she has given us and she responds so quickly!

Hi, this is my very first post ...so I'm not sure if I should just chime in here. I get married there on July 21, 2012 and have about 75 people who will be coming. it sounds like you had a very positive experience so I wanted to get your opinion on some things. I'm really nervous because my wedding planner has literally ignored me for weeks on end. My fiancé who is in school and work and therefore uninvolved, finally called her and she said she has just been very busy doing some 80+ weddings in a month. She then replayed a few emails with quick answeres and no direction. Is it normal for them to be this unresponsive? I guess what also scares me now is that there are so may weddings going on and she is to busy for me. Am I not supposed to plan much until a month before? I'm sort of on my own right now planning this thing. Can you and anyone else tell me a little bit about what to expect from the planners there and if I'm just freaking out? I'd really appreciate any advice I can get. Thank you,

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
