ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Tell me about it. My wedding is April 16th and that weekend has been completely booked for a while now.... and a lot of my procrastinating friends and family are now screwed and have to stay somewhere else... even Gran Porto is completely booked that weekend! I don't know why it is so busy there in April...  ugh.

For my guests that didn't book, they are now scrounging around. Please let your guests know that April is a very popular time to visit the resorts and you don't want them to miss out.

I must add, I don't know if the selling out thing is exclusive to my TA.  I am assuming that she wouldn't book anyone else for the Royal because she didn't want to risk them being "bumped" to another resort so check with your TA's.  I am a little disappointed with my TA becasue I feel like she should have warned us that the Royal and the Gran Porto were reaching max capacity.

PrettyPig - You were on the ball for all those people waiting for their tax refunds to book!

Our ceremony is on beach with reception in the garden the day after yours! We also went with the free wedding, just seemed more flexible, one of my bridesmaids is a hair stylist and the other is a makeup artist which definately helps.

our photographer will be staying at the resort so like the other ladies have mentioned, that will "by-pass" the $350 vendor fee. depending on whether you're doing first look photos or not, 1/2 hour might not be enough and 2 hours after the ceremony might be too much.....

i asked about the tres leches cake too, but was told they cannot do it for outdoor receptions during that time of year as it will melt. i did read some time ago that a bride was told she couldn't have it prior to her wedding, but requested it upon arrival and got it.....i figure it doesn't hurt to ask when we get there, but in case, I'm going to choose another flavour that i'd be ok with too.

i've heard great things about the beef and the paris chocolate shell   =)

hope this kinda helps! See you there~~

I'm very lucky to have three guests (one is family) that are professional hair stylists...so, no worries there.  Also, I plan to do my own makeup (I have been researching and shopping for several weeks already :) But, the one outside vendor issue I haven't seen addressed on this forum is the photographer.

Does anyone know, will we have to pay the $350 vendor fee to use an outside photographer?  Has anyone had any luck adding their photographer to the guest list, or finding another way around the vendor fee?

With the photographer--how have people divided up the time?  We have a four-hour package with Blue Lens Caribe.  I was thinking a half hour before the wedding, the wedding, 1-2 hours after and then 1 hour of the reception.  Anyone have suggestions on how to best use the photographer?

Also, what have people experienced as far as guests staying outside of the The Royal?  Can guests staying at the Gran Porto get into the The Royal, or is it true that all individuals not staying at The Royal can only come in for the wedding and reception?  If my family and members of the wedding party can't get in, it will be pretty daunting to not be able to get ready together.

Last, any thoughts on the food choices for the reception? We are having a private reception, and I'm just wondering if anyone has recommendations for the menu?  I keep reading about a cake--tres leches--but this does not seem to be on the menu.

Sorry for the long list questions.  And I'm sure there are more to follow :)

Jen

Hi! My fiance and I are getting married at the Royal on May 4, 2011 - I have been planning for months and just found this site! Just wanted to introduce myself :) A quick question - does anyone know a good place for an after party? Our reception is done around 11 and knowing the crowd of people we've got coming, we're going to need to send them somewhere fun!

Thanks,

Liz

I ran into this issue with wanting a private reception. I heard on the forum that you can pay for the extra people, i.e. just pay the fee for the extra 5 people.  Maybe this will work for you?? Check with your WC.

Hey Ladies - Is anyone planning a group excursion? Where to? And are you planning to pay a % for your guests? I am thinking about doing a group excursion to  Xel-ha / (and / or Tulum).  I want to do this two days after our wedding but I have mixed fillings since one of my MOH's (yep, I have 2!) is leaving the day after our wedding.  Any suggestions?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
