Now its like they don't want to be bothered this early.

I'm getting married there June 16th. I don't think I've ever setup a basecamp. How do I do that? My WC is Andrea and I just email her. For any pressing issues my TA calls her and talks to her immediately. She generally emails back within the same day - sometimes a few hours later but at least she's responding.

Definitely call. I know September and October is a busy month for them with early fall weddings.

My question to you ladies who have visited there, was the beach nice? I am slightly concerned because I am totally a beach person. I love laying on the beach, swimming in it, etc. My concern is that most people say the beach is not that nice. That it has a sulfur smell to it and it can be really rocky in most parts. Is this true?

I am not a picky person, but I do want to make sure that my guests are loving the beach!

Any feedback on this from you ladies that have been there?

BTW, thanks for the info. on the flower guy Jess cheesy.gif

I am addicted to tripadvisor. That's how I decided to have my wedding at The Royal. It was more positives than negatives and of course all the brides on here. So far I haven't heard any stories about a horrible wedding. knock on wood!

I've read that too. I've heard that the smell goes away and that near the pier is where it's mainly rocky. But someone said if you walked down a few ways it's pretty nice.

Lisa and RosiePosie - thanks for that scary update about the police. WOW!! I can't believe they can do that. I may have my guests group together so it's a large group and they can't single them out.

Thanks, I decided just to email him ( Thanks for the email address Jesmcan! ) and tell him what I was interested in and he sent pictures and prices. His work is amazing! I'm trying to avoid the vendor fee though.  Trying to figure out how to bypass it. haha

Tell me about it. I am really not a fan of that vendor fee!!! So glad Marvin is responsive. I need to email him myself. Who are you using for makeup? I'm having a hard time getting a response from Fernando with makeup pros.

I know that I just joined this thread and introduced myself, but I have an update.

I think I am going to look for a new venue. The resort just incorrectly sent our Real Club timeshare/membership to a collections agency in the US!!!!!

I don't think I could stomach giving them any more money for our wedding.

My mom and I loved this resort so much that we decided to invest in it and buy a membership in May 2009. When my fiance and I visited in August 2009, to use the membership for the first time, we discovered that it is essentially a hoax. They don't give you anything but a bit of a discount on your room. And it is very expensive!!!

but my fiance and I wanted to make the best of it and have our wedding there and they just completely ruined it.

I know the wedding department is different and they can be professional, but I do not trust this place... I'm thinking about suing them because of this, if I can obtain enough information. They are extremely unprofessional and have no customer service skills. They were disrespectful to my mother over the phone and actually admitted to not answering our NUMEROUS emails. We emailed them over 5 times asking questions about our membership.

The real resorts are a joke. At this point, I don't think I'll be spending the happiest day of my life at any of their locations.

Sorry I am extremely upset right now!!!!!!!!!! Just thought you all should know some of the realistic things that happen with this organization.

So sorry to hear about that!! That is downright unprofessional. I hope you get this issue with them resolved. Luckily you were just in the beginning of planning. Keep us posted on your situation. If you want other recommendations, I hear the El Dorado is amazing - I have a friend who's attending a wedding there next thursday. When she gets back I can fill you in on how it went. Azul is another beautiful place and a new resort called Now Sapphire. I do know El Dorado is adults only. Azul may be as well. Not sure about Now Sapphire.

Good luck!!

Don't stress about Fernando, he just takes some time to reply. I worried about it then realized that he's got everything taken care of. :) I know that it doesn't make it easier (to get a delayed reply or none at all) but I can assure you he'll come through! :)

I freaked out about Fernando a few times and every time he pulled through. He marks them down right away, I think he is just busy and/or doesn't really get all email obsessed like all his crazy bride-to-be's do! :) I'll definitely let you know how everything turns out! I know, I feel like I should be stressing right now. I pretty much have everything done except some final details with the OOT bags and stuff like that. Weird how it's finally here (almost) after waiting for it for so long. I hope all the brides this weekend/week get good weather and miss those hurricanes/tropical storms!! :(

I think it's important to establish a phone relationship with her so she knows that you want to be attended to. If I send her a message via basecamp and she doesn't reply within two days, depending on how urgent is my questions, I'll call her......my WC is Katia....I am getting married at the royal in cancun but I love this thread and all the info these ladies share! Who's your WC?

My WC is Elsa, she did get back to me today.  She sent me an email saying she hadn't heard from me since we spoke over the phone, then she said she checked out basecamp and saw I had written her 4 times.  I clicked new message and clicked her name but she said she never recieved the notifications.  Oh well, no worries.  I know I love this thread also, everyone seems to be ontop of things!

I'm not sure about make up and hair yet.  I am a hairdresser and am VERY picky about things like that.  I think I'm going to get a trial done on my hair as soon as I get down there before the wedding.  As for make up I think I'm just doing it myself.  I had it dont "professionally" done twice and hated it.  I know I'll be stressed as it is that day and if something isn't looking right I don't want to take it out on the make up girl,  haha. I  know people said Fernando is awesome but I think thats a LOT of money! plus the vendor fee.  Oh about florist, my WC said that as long as they don't have to set up any of the flowers you avoid the fee.  So they won't set up center pieces or flowers on the gazebo or huppas or anything like that.  I told her that was fine I'd have a guest do it for me.  Saves me some $$

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
