ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

hey girls,

so originally we were going to do the luxury package, but recently changed to booking the master suite so we could get the free package. it just made more sense for us to have a nicer/bigger room plus save some money in the end just adding on what we wanted, like the 3 hr private reception, couture cake, and DJ. we are going to save like $500 in the end even with paying the extra to stay in the master suite! we weren't going to use the nails, makeup, hair, etc... so, now we have a different menu for the reception, since it's just a 3 course now.

so i want to know if we can switch the dessert option on the 3 course for a soup instead, since we are paying $250-300 for a cake?! if so, which menu do we pick the soup of off? and i heard some of you saying you can pick a different salad or wahtever from other menus? it's soooo hard to pick this stuff when we didn't do a site visit so no clue how it looks/tastes. opinions are much appreciated!! :)) thanks!

TA's do use multiple supplers as Jill mentioned and some of our suppliers have a no walk/no bump contract so booking through them is ideal, and I just recently made a booking for this resort through one of these preferred suppliers and the price was lower than what is currently avaialble online. So you are not paying more money for this added peace of mind and protection.
If they do "bump" you, do they send you to another REAL resort or do they just shove you to the first resort they can find?

Whew! My eyes are tired; I think it's taken me a good 3-4 weeks but I'm pretty sure I made it all the way through this thread! My FI and I are greatly considering the Royal PDC for May 2011 and I have to say that you ladies are the best source of information I could possibly have found - thank you and I hope once planning gets more underway I help out more as well.

Seriously? Her junk email? Ok. Any answers about anything that would be helpful to us?

So my brother is the only one that booked through a 3rd party site. I am worried he will get bumped since the resort is booked. I will be there when he checks in so I can scream! wink.gif

Is anyone else getting married in 2011? Have you heard when room rates will be out? My wedding is a little more than 9 months away and my guests still can't get room rates!!

My travel agent says she has booked us through the resort but can't give us a final price still...

Maybe I should e-mail one of the WC (Suzanna was mine but apparently she doesn't work there anymore)...but maybe they can give me like a time frame..is it weeks or months away...

about half of my guests booked through expedia or whatever (i'm at gran porto). i looked at the site last night and it is really close to being full. i will be upset if people get bumped! i really really don't want to have to pay to have them as non-guests if they were booked there and it would be obviously be nice to have everyone together. i, too, was not warned about the bumping possibility.

i mentioned i'd let you all know about adding flowers to the cake - it's the same as what was on the excel price sheet i have. i also asked her about the tres leches cake:

can we specify colors to use for the cake decorations? what if we wanted to just add a couple of orange lilies instead of the frosting flowers? You can add a floral cake topper at $35 for a small one or $45 for a med., but beyond that they consider it a custom cake and would charge as such. ive heard amazing things about the tres leches cake - is this still available?

I asked why they no longer offer Tres Leches for the wedding Cakes even though many request it. Here is the answer. You tell me if you still want it.

Even though it has a wonderful taste the consistency is like a mouse or a soft pudding. They have to keep it refrigerated until the last minute and if it is hot it will turn into a puddle in a matter of minutes.

i also asked about switching up the flowers for the bouquet:

i would love to have calla lilies as a part of my bouquet. are the florists pretty strict about not including them after april? They are not available after April. They are not in season.

otherwise, do we just specify the colors of the flowers we select on the checklist? You can change the color of the rose in your bouquet if they have that color or the lily etc.

i also asked about the selection of centerpieces, as i was slightly confused by the offerings in the catalog:

are all the centerpieces shown included in the package? where do we show our selection for this (i don't see a space on the checklist)? The only centerpiece included in the package is the alter centerpiece. They will make that to match the bouquets that you pick.

about the timeline for the checklist and being in touch with an on-site coordinator:

You do not connect with the onsite coordinator until you turn in your completed checklist and make your full payment at about 45 days out. They we send the information to Mexico and discuss your file with your onsite coordinator and they contact you about 30 days out. You already past 60 days out and your checklist is due.

there were a few other things, but i think they were a little more specific. if you have lingering questions, let me know - i just might have asked them!

Diane, I did ask about the centerpieces way back when and they told me it would cost $60/centerpiece. I think that is WAY overpriced! I think most of the girls on the forum would agree, which is why you see them do a lot of DIY centerpieces, like I am.

I had my wedding shower yesterday! It was so much fun! It is definitely weird being on the other side after so many years of going to these things!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
