We are doing a 1 hour welcome cocktail reception that is included in the ultimate luxury wedding package. We are doing it at the royal at one fo the restaurants. Also I did read that one of he brides just had everyone meet at one of the bars and put tables together and that it worked out perfectly.
I'm hoping to do that where everyone can just meet at one of the bars for a welcome cocktail reception. Way cheaper and that way people can come and go as they choose.

The cost between the two just doesn't seem comparable so we're doing the Luxury, adding 15 people and doing the bigger cake. We'll be spending $600 more than the luxury package, but still having to figure out the coctail thing which can't be as much as the the entire wedding.

Any thoughtshuh.gif I'm so confused on all of this that I just may be missing out on something.
Hey Lexibride,

We are having a total of 100 people and we acctually want a 5 hour private event so I cant remember how it all worked out but when we got down to it it just made sense for us to go with the ultimate luxury. I have to look again and do a side by side comparison which we had done but we deleted it after we chose the package we wanted. So I don't think your missing anything, just with a 100 people it made more sense.

I was wondering who you all booked for your DJ? I am about to book Ivan Gomez. His prices are very reasonable ($650) and I read great things about him on the forum and he has alot of videos on youtube.
Hi Jennie,

Hi Jennie!
We're just going to use our iPod and make some cool playlists. I'm on a pretty tight budget so a DJ is one of the things we decided to cut.

Hi Ladies!

I just wanted to give everyone a review of some sort since i just came back from the Royal doing our site tour last week. Since half of our guests will be staying at the gran porto and half of the royal, i checked out both resorts. Also checked out the real resort too

The Royal - Beautiful! thats all i can say, the grounds are gorgeous, clean, & nice staff.

The Gran Porto - Nice resort, saw lots of kids, the resort i found was a lot hotter in the lobby then the Royal. I assume becuase the Royal's lobby is so much bigger more air can flow through.

The Real resort - their budget resort - this resort was OK. basically, if your family and friends just want a cheap place to stay, this would be the place. they have a small pool and only one restaurant.

We are getting married at the gazebo which was large and beautiful. The reception will be on the beach and i was shown which beach area is where mine will be held. Its the location next to the pier, i was told since we are having 50-60 people that is the best place to put us. She said we have the option to move to the center space of the beach, but its a really high traffic area and recomended we don't go there. The other option was the beach area in front of the gazebo, but she said that night, some other party has resevered a dinner in the gazebo, so we probably wouldnt want to have the reception so close to them. I was able to see the standard set up because they had a wedding one night at the gran porto. However, michellle madrid told me the setup at the gran is not as nice as the royal. The have better lights under the table, not sure what else is the difference. Tiki torches are included in the standard set up too.

I think someone asked in the past about the garden area and if the grass was easy to walk on barefoot. The grass is super soft and you would be very comfortable walking around barefoot.

I was able to also meet with our vendors. DJ Ivan Gomez - very nice and very professional. He told me he used to work at the royal many years ago and so the staff all know him and he knows his way around the resort, especially with all the weddings he has done there. Photographer - Samuel Luna. I can't say this enough- this guy is awesome! he reallly can deliver high-quality photos for a bargain of a price. He is the same caliber as Del Sol Photography but is more affordable. he was able to walk me thorugh my wedding day and help me decide my timeline and how much time to take photos is needed. I would def. recommend you check out his site Flash Portfolio | Top Mexico Photographers | Mexico Destination Wedding Photographer Samuel Luna and please let him know i referred you to him!

Videographer- playa weddings - I met with paul and his wife and they are both super nice people, He walked me through the day and what he was going to do and all his equipment, etc.

Michelle Madrd - my wedding coordinator at the royal - Such a nice women, she showed us the property and answered my questions i had.

overall experience was great. After seeing both resorts, i would likely push my family and friends to try to stay at the royal if they can afford it. its that much nicer. HOwever, i was also told that they always have this promotion: 3 day minimum for $60 per person gives a guest at the Gran Porto access to the Royal 24 hours. So they can come to the royal pool and hang out.

One other thing worth mentioning, since the beach is a public beach, anyone staying at the gran porto can simply walk over the royal side of the beach and hang out no problem. The only thing they cannot do is lie down on the lounger chairs or order any drinks from the royal waitstaff.

anyways, there is my review, hope this helps some! i am super excited for my wedding next year and i know i have made the right choice to have it at the Royal.

Thank you sooooo much for reporting back to us about your site. My mom has been freaking out that I'm doing my wedding at The Royal without knowing how it is down there and they might rip me off. I assure her that it wont be the case because I trust BDW members' accounts of The Royal. I'll show her this post!!

What's interesting is that promotion...a person who is staying at Gran can purchase a pass for $60 for 3 days? Is that right?

Adriana- Thanks for the review!

Has everyone reserved their reception location? Zulma never asked me which location I wanted. I am waiting for her response. There are 3 beach locations to chose from correct? Can anyone tell me where those are at on the beach? And which one would be best?

yea, the royal is gorgeous, your mom has nothing to fear, they will take care of you.

As far as the promotion, that was what we were told at the front desk at the gran porto. Since my wedding isnt untill next April, i asked if this promotion is only for a limited time and they said no we always have this. So basically your guests can opt to pay $60 which is for 3 days to be allowed on the royal property. This is great for those people who dont want to pay all that money to actually sleep there but can go visit.

any other questions, i will try my best to answer!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
