Thanks!
From what I understand, you can use your iPod rather than a DJ. The charge is around $80. This pays for their full PA system (speakers, iPod dock, etc.) and someone from the Royal to monitor the iPod (make sure the music never stops, etc.) That's not bad when you compare the $1000+ for a DJ.

I haven't heard complaints about the sound system. I will most likely go this route too since I plan on renting a band for 2 hours or so and the rest of the time just play tunes off the laptop or iPod. Just use iTunes or Winamp to make your playlist and you are good to go.

Hey Steph. I went to TripAdvisor to search the forums on luggage scams. The info I got was nothing recent with the last post in 2006. From what I gathered there was confusion with some passengers where their airlines told them 50lb limit and they had no problems going to Mexico. However on the way back home the limit is suddenly 44lbs. But they were only charged $25 US once, not per pound. I guess just clarify the limits with your airline.

There are some other extreme cases that go on but the example above was the most common problem. Some called it a scam and others a misunderstanding.

Anyway I will ask my fiancee more info since her patient is coming in again today.

I too am using and ipod and I was told that they will have someone there to run it.

Wow, a lot has gone on in the 2 months since I have been gone! we had 2 months with no wedding talk and it was certainly needed...of course once we got back the extended family started acting up again...I have 2 months and a bit to go and I am SO EXCITED!

What were you told you would pay to have someone run the iPod and equipment for you?

I thought we would use an iPOD, but now, I think we'll just burn some CDs and let them go...

We won't be playing specific music for cake cutting and such in Mexico...just for first dance, father/daughter dance.

There are so many details, like this one, where I really have no idea what else I should be planning, or how it will all pan out...

The sound was awesome! and very loud! - it can be as loud as you want it to be. We were surprised by the lit up dance floor, we didn't ask for it but it was there.. we had our reception in the gazebo and the dance floor was set up right in front on the little patio are (for 10 of us it was absolutely perfect!)

we used our own ipod to save some money, and made 2 play lists, one for the dinner, the other for the dancing.. had the song for the walk down the aisle on a different playlist and it was all fine..def go for it if you're trying to save some money, but don't leave the music till the last minute! lol

Shay, I read this on the FAQ sheet and on the reception sheet that Zulma sent me:
•Do you provide music for the Reception?
•Yes, we have a sound system available for you with background music. You can always bring your own ipod and cds. In order to have a Dj with professional lightning, music and sound system, please consult the prices on the wedding checklist.

"Background music (if you bring your own CD's a music technician services will be required $80.00usd)"

Don't know if this helps anyone....

I want to know how Geminie got the light up dance floor for free!!!! I want the dance floor to light up...but I absolutely refuse to pay $500USD for it.

The reason I asked the question about "How much were you told you'd have to pay..." is because months ago, I had emailed Micaela about this, and she said, if we were playing the music ourselves, we would not have to pay any fee...

Oh the mixed communications...god damn.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
