ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all of the info everyone!!

I am however a little confused on the pricing. The one form lists the pricing of the different types of menu items, then on another form it says the wedding is $50 for guests $60 for Grand Real guests. Would I figure costs on the type of menu I'd like (Buffet, Deluxe Menu, International) or just based on the $50/$60 price??

Hey Ladies,

I'm going to attach everything I have, so that you can upload it from the Forum. Thanks to other Royal brides who sent all this info to me. Thanks for the cake & gazebo pix, Shay! :)

HELP!

Ok, this question is for those further along in the planning process or who already had there wedding.

Does anyone know if you can customize the wedding packages? For example if there are things in a package that I do not want can I take them out and get a lower price?

Also, Angie at villa world said that 2010 pricing wasn't out yet for the packages, but if I make my reservation in 2009 shouldn't they honor the 2009 pricing? How is anyone suppose to plan otherwise?

Trying to get my budget under control! I think I may lose my mind!

Hey girls

So I am confused by the responses that we all get from the hotel. For example the pricing of the cocktail party seems to be all over the map.

Some people are getting it for $10 pp and others for like $30 per person. I believe my quote was $25 pp

The other thing is the dance floor. It seems that the lighted dance floor is a unanswered questions still. Does the Royal have it and is it included in our price for the reception or not? I sent an e-mail about 2 weeks ago and the response was that they DO NOT have a lighted dance floor but someone else got a different response. I know that its difficult to get all our answers back from the hotel and that the prices may vary between 08 and 09 but I just wish our information was consistent.

Is anyone doing a photo slide show for the reception? I am planning on doing that but not sure of the information as far as cost or format that they need the photos. Has anyone else gotten this information?

What packages are everyone getting? I seemed to do the math and found that the big packages don't actually pay to buy unless and think I am going with the one that was about $1500.

Also, who's wedding is nexthuh.gif Mine is May 15th but we must have some coming up quickly :)

The first thing I can tell you is, the WCs are pretty good about honoring the prices that are in effect AT THE TIME OF BOOKING. If you book your date (I'm still thinking this requires the $300USD deposit), then...the prices in the packages at this time, are what will be honored...just make sure to tell you WC this is your expectation. This is what I did, and they are honoring the prices from when we first started planning with them.

Secondly, you CANNOT customize any of the wedding packages in the sense you are hoping for. Trust me! I wanted to do this also, as it seemed only fair (not in wedding planning world)!...You can customize UP, but you cannot customize DOWN! I suggest..if there are a lot of things in the bigger packages that you just don't want or need (spa treatments, etc) then...start at a more basic package level, and get quotes for all the things you DO want.

We ended up selecting the Luxury Package, as the Star Crossed one was...not only a heck of a lot more money...but had a bunch of stuff we just didn't need, or want. For the extras that we did want, we're paying reasonable upgrade prices for those...and ultimately feel that our wedding is going to be EXACTLY what we want now. It's worth it to put in the extra planning time in my opinion...

Although, paying for an all encompassing package, and letting them do ALL the work...has its perks as well!

Don't stress! If you are concerned, or just need to vent...you have us! We've all been there, or are getting there...and some of us would even do it all again, so, come here and pose the questions. You're on the right path...

FIRST THING...book your date and get them that deposit!!! Then..onto other planning stuff!

I believe the people who got the cocktail hour for $10 were back in 2007, early 2008. This is a price that I do not believe exists anymore! Sad, but true. Since I started planning our wedding last March, the package prices alone have almost doubled...so when planning your budget, try to budget high, based moreso on prices that folks are being quoted now, unless you have something specific in writing with the WC or they have acknowledged to you that they will honor a certain price for you (original booking time/price, etc). I believe it was $25 we were quoted, but as it turns out, our hors d'oeuvres are included in our Package. We'll be paying $50pp for the Reception.

The dance floor is up in the air as far as I am concerned also. I have emailed about this several times now, and have not received a response AT ALL! I believe they have a standard white rickety dance floor, that will completely serve its purpose...but I KNOW they have a lighted dance floor, as some recent brides have had a chance to use it...I'm just not sure if it was because they had their DJ provide it (which we will not be using a DJ) or if it was based on the number of people in their party and provided by the hotel, or...if it is just the new standard at the hotelhuh.gif Regardless, at this point, I'm planning on the white rickety thing for my group of 13, and if we get the upgrade...they Hooray!

We are only doing a slideshow at our AHR the weekend after. I think we'll forego the formalities in Mexico...and just drink! I do think however, if you decide to do your Slideshow...if your reception in hosted in their ballroom, you have access to that kind of equipment...if it is outdoors, I'm not sure what they have to provide, or if you would have to pay extra for setup or anything. I would be interested in this information as well.

We are going with the Luxury Package (I will refrain from posting the price we are getting it at to avoid confusion, but I was one of the lucky ones who began planning before the last two price increases...I'm not sure I would take this package now, if the prices had been what they are today).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
