ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

I was thinking the same thing!! I am split on having a rehearsal dinner or welcome dinner for all the guest. Kinda seems like you should invite everyone since they came all the way there for you... I heard on other threads that 5th ave has a lot of nice places.

Thanks for sharing Shay, that sounds like it is going to be a good time!!

That makes me feel a little better about doing some of the traditional items I was planning. Maybe I am just stressing too much since I am so far away from everything. Hopefully it will all fall into place!

Yah, I'm pretty stoked. I hope it all comes together the way I envision it will.

As for stress...everytime I feel that stress bubble creeping up, I have to try to remind myself...that...this is supposed to be FUN!!! When it stops being exciting and fun...we have to remember to take a step back, calm ourselves, and breathe!

You're going to do fine, but you do have your hands full. Don't be afraid to ask for help...from us here, or friends/family. Even if no one has offered yet, there is someone around you just dying to get their wedding hands dirty!

Shay-I just read your post about your AHR. That sounds like SO much fun! I know you pretty much have it all planned now, but, man, that must have been MUCH more work than planning the wedding!!! It'll be worth it, I'm sure!

We're thinking of doing something really low-key for our AHR. Maybe as simple as an elaborate BBQ in our backyard (but I don't care, I'm definitely going to use it as an excuse to wear my dress again!)...As much as I'd LOVE to do the full-fledged reception deal, I think our limited budget will constrain us to the simple wedding and simple AHR. Although now that we're NOT doing it next summer, we may have a little more money to work with...only time will tell...finances are such a pain in the butt! I'm so jealous of all of you who have your weddings coming up so soon!!!

We aren't having a Rehearsal Dinner but we are having a 'Welcome Cocktail Party' the night before. I spoke to some previous brides and they suggested to do it in the lobby bar. The bar looks really big and cool, with couches, beds for conversing, lots of tables and chairs. I made up custom drink menus that we will put on the tables and the featured drinks follow the theme of Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. In the OOT bags we did a list of 'Who's Who' at the wedding so I hope people will read this to learn a little about each person so that it will be a good conversation starter at the cocktail party. This is a really simple and affordable way to have a special gathering for your guests when they arrive. We are also doing a brunch the morning after the wedding in Spice. I am just hoping to pull some tables together. Again, just a way to get everyone together and say thank you and reminisce about the night before. I'll let you know how it all works out.

Katy!

It's crazy dude...I just read through your planning thread, and...there are some real similarities to what we're doing! It's to be expected I suppose, especially considering we're both having a destination wedding at the Royal...

but...

- Your FI and your initials are the same as ours!

- We are doing Chartreuse and Chocolate Brown for our colors (I thought I was the only one who said "Chartreuse" these days!)

- Our invitations are designed similarly (we're not using a monogram) but, the cardstock is virtually the same, the size looks exact, and I haven't seen many other brides design them long side up...but we did that too!

- Our dress styles are similar (moreso your TTD with mine)

- Same wine favors

I don't know...I thought it was...very similar! Moreso than anyone else...so I must say...GOOD JOB!cheer2.gif haha. Your stuff...looks much nicer than ours though! LOL

Just a quick note about what we're doing when we arrive. On our second day/evening at the Resort, we are treating our guests to a short (two hour) but sweet sunset cocktail cruise (no snorkelling or food) just to say Thank You. The rest of the time will be their own (except of course, the wedding day)!

Katy, I'd love to see your drink menus!!!

For our AHR, we've rented out the deck at the club where I work. If you'd like to see some pics, the website is www.glasscactusnightclub. com. It overlooks the lake (so we can have a common theme of water in both the wedding and AHR).

We're not doing the dancing, bouquet tossing, etc. nor will I be wearing my dress...

We're having a Mexican food buffet of beef/chicken fajitas with all of the fixins', chips, salsa, guacamole, rice and beans and a southwestern ceasar salad station, along with wedding cake and groom's cake. We also will have beer, margaritas and soft drinks... YUM! It sounds too good!

As far as decor, we're going to play up the beauty of the view and keep things pretty simple with different shades of blue/green ribbon (ocean colors) as accents with some white tulips or gerber daisys on the tables. I got some great candles on clearance at Kohls that look like sand castles, so those will be scattered as well. As a wedding gift, my sister has gotten us a 3 piece acoustic band to play. Also, there are 2 plasma tv's outside that we will loop a DVD of our wedding pics and/or wedding video.

WHEW! Writing it all down almost makes it sound like I'm almost done! WOO HOO!!!!

I think the AHR will be loads of fun too. My FI and I were set up on a blind date...and we went to a movie. Movies have basically defined our relationship ever since! cheesy.gif We measure (almost) everything by...that time we saw "enter movie title here"? haha.

Planning the wedding in Mexico has really been a slice compared to the AHR up to now. Mexico...I'm really going to take advantage of EVERYTHING the hotel can provide to us within our package(!), without us having to really fuss or splurge it up. I've never been...well, anywhere, outside of Canada, so...the experience of just being on the beach in Mexico with my husband, family & friends...is really all the accessory I need. So that part...is nice.

The AHR is just going to be a fun celebration back home, where we can all enjoy pictures of Mexico and lots to eat and drink! Yours will be wonderful no matter what you do...because it will be about you and your new husband...

It doesn't GET much better than that!

Hi, i'm getting married at The Royal May 16...my rehearsal dinner is being held two nights before at an amazing restaurant called Negro Sal which is right up the street (off of 5th) from the resort...it's so beautiful and romantic...we're pretty much taking over half of the restaurant as there are 40 people coming for that dinner. The chef came up with a condensed menu for us as well as a special drink menu.

As for deposits, I paid the $300 some time ago and am sending in 50% before the end of the month.

Hi everyone!

First off, I love your long thread Katy with all the photos. All of your wedding details are beautiful! I can't wait to hear all about your wedding once you get back. Your choices are incredible and I can't get over how organized you are! Have a blast at your wedding and know that we are all thinking about your special day!

I just wanted to tell everyone that I was emailed some info today from the hotel that I found pretty helpful. I thought that some of you may want to see it if you have not seen it already. This forum has helped me so much that I wanted to get it to all of you as soon as I saw it!

I also have files with the floral arrangements and menus if anyone is interested!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
