I have seen the hotel photographer samples...from what I gather there is a company who provides photographs...and I don't think it is the SAME photographer each time...but I also don't think you get to choose which one you want.

Their pictures are...good...just not what I was hoping for. I didn't realize how important the photography was going to be until just recently, and especially now that I almost "lost" the opportunity.

I spoke with Micaela yesterday, and I think they are going to allow us to purchase two "offsite" passes, at the fixed price (also new) of $100 usd each for our photographers, and then they will be allowed on the premises as members of our wedding party. I would like to stress however, that if this is what they are able to do for us...they may not necessarily be able to do that for you. I'm glad I didn't listen to those people who said I was planning things way too early, because had we waited just a few more weeks...the new prices would have been in effect and the "No Outside Vendor" policy (which, unless you've inquired, has apparently been in effect since just after Heidi booked!! - however long ago that was) would not be flexible.

I think things will work out...and ultimately, I'll pay what I have to to make the wedding go off without a hitch...it just...hurts the wallet a bit! But to her credit, Micaela seems like she will try to go above and beyond on anything she can to calm a bride down...so to me, that is invaluable.

Anyways...thanks for calming me down yesterday...even if not directly!! cheesy.gif

Now, I just hope we can juggle our wedding date...still haven't heard about that yet...

HUmm...now its making me think - we wanted to hire outside "vendor" Mirachi band b/c they are cheaper than what the resort offers...that might not be an option now...my FI will be so bummed.

What about using Lounge furniture? Will they let someone else do that?? OR is this NEW policy ONLY at the Royal? I will have to ask Micaela.... argh!

As for the "NEW" policy on vendors...I think if you can get it through one of their packages, it applies. But I really don't know 100%

We are interested in having a solo guitarist play as I walk down the aisle and for our cocktail hour...but our package specifies Mariachi Band. Even though they are listed as the same price on the information I received from the resort, they are not able to "swap" one for the other...unless we pay for the soloist in its entirety. I think it is like $400...so we're not going to. As I understand it, booking the entertainment through Ajua (outside vendor - ajuaweddings.com), is not allowed. Booking through the hotel's selection, is.

The best way to approach it is to just ask. Micaela does seem very accomodating, and hopefully, within reason of her manager, she is able to help you out or at least offer reasonable alternatives for you.

I'm taking a few days off the wedding planning to de-stress. I have a cold today, and...I'm taking that as a sign to relax!

I'll start again next week! I just want to nail down the fundamentals, and then we can relax again.

I feel so good! Everything is confirmed! smile36.gif

I was soo worried about the price my guests would have to pay.. after reading some of the posts and getting some outrageous quotes from a wedding planner at destinationweddings.com (which I fired...)

Anyways, good news is, my 10 confirmed guests (so far) are getting their package for a little over $1500 for 1 week flying out from toronto... Transat Holidays is having a tax promotions right now so it's $150 cheaper /per person in taxes. And this is a group rate that we got.

It is possible to go to the Royal on a budget! This is the entry level room though, the junior suite, and we're trying to see if we can make sure that everyone will get a pool view... we might be on the other side of the hotel... the garden side.

I figure that's fine too, I don't want to be spending too much time in my room, there's so many things to do and see! cheesy.gif

Zulma has been really great too, and she said that we'll have to buy a day pass for outside photographers and that it shouldn't be a problem to have them there on our day. That is a huge relief!

I'm not sure about other vendors though... I'll have to find out. I really want to do a lounge set-up on the beach.....

Yay! I'm glad things are working out for you! Just wanted to let you know that we had some guests in the junior suite and, honestly, they are just as gorgeous. We paid extra for the beachfront walkout for our wedding, but we would have been just as happy with a junior suite. Depending on your group, though, you may want to be away from the pool side... it can get a bit loud there. We had guests in the same block as the rooms facing the pool, but on the garden side and they preferred it like that.
Also if anybody wants, I found on the Internet a great overview of the Royal with all the room numbers so you can see as to which ones you might want to reserve ahead of time. PM me with your email address if anybody wants and I'll email it to you.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hello again everyone...

I was just bumping the thread to see if there has been any Royal progress for upcoming weddings?

I have re-set our wedding date (Air Canada cancelled a bunch of flights that ended up affecting our trip), so now we're scheduled for 5PM at the Royal on May 7, 2009!!!

We've selected our colors, and I found THE dress!! Everything is falling into place now...we just have esthetic things to select now...cheesy.gif

How about everyone else? Any progress?

I finally got word from the WC at the Royal and she is allowing us to bring in an outside photographer. Anything that we decided to have before the new rule started. I was so excited. We had our pre-Mexico party so everyone could meet (and a great excuse to have some fun). We handed out great gift bags to everyone with our logo everywhere. I think all of of plans have been set and we just have to relax until we leave on August 9th! That just doesn't seem like it could be right.....we must be forgetting something!

I know when I am that close to the date...I'm going to be an overly excited, ball of nerves!! LOL...I can't wait! LOL

Congrats on the photographer, what a relief that must have been...hopefully you already had someone booked and all plans are going ahead as originally planned! Hey, are you doing a legal, or symbolic ceremony?

Good luck on your big day, and...Congratulations!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
